The man's certainly got a strong opinion of the current state of Celtic affairs:

I LOVE this guy's honesty. Not only Callahan, but such experts as Chris Broussard and the legendary Jackie MacMullan are busting Dumb Danny Ainge's chops. Now the C's are as soft as Campfire Marshmallows. Rondo is going to take Alicia Silverstone's part in the remake of "Cluless"-I couldn't believe the shots Rose was hitting over KG in the paint as regular as EXLAX relieves constipation. Kristic is so soft he could replace Charmin at Mr Whipple's store. Even Mike D'Antoni couldn't screw up this set up for the Knicks. Spike Lee will be in his glory.

I want to see this guy's article aftrer the Celtics win the finals in June. Sure, he's pissed like the rest of it, but I heard it again in last night's game from a commentator:

"Doc Rivers knows this team. He seems to push all the right buttons." While not a glaring endorsement since he was an announcer for the Wiz, we've heard this before. Let Doc do his job. Danny has done his. His verdict will come after the Celtics win the last game of the playoffs or lose it.

Gerry Callahan – the same guy who joked that the gorilla that escaped from the Franklin Park Zoo was waiting at a school bus stop with all the other black kids going to school that morning.

I always like the people who shoot a team when they are down. Fanning the flame. I actually hope the Celtics are reading the papers, just like the one Russell (or Cousy?) brought into the locker room about the baloon celebration in LA. Please, rest of NBA World, watch and learn. You won't, though, because you have forgotten who you are dealing with and all you want is the glitz that sells.

We're really going to love this one.

Callahan may have a warped perspective on humanity, but he's spot on with his analysis of how this team has been undermined by Ainge's miscalculations & misevaluations. I doubt if this year's Celtic team has the resolve of the '68-'69 Celts that spoiled LA's baloon party. Why would Ainge bank so heavily on Shaq, when he knows Shaq hasn't played a full season since '06 when he, Wade, & Posey took the title. That's right the same Posey Danny Boy wouldn't give an extra year to in contract length!

If Shaq can come back and JON can play like he did last nite and Green too for that matter, were in very good shape......ofcourse those are pretty big IF's.

James Posey is only averaging 17mpg this year. His mpg have dropped every year since he left Boston.
He's shooting 34% from the field this year. His fg% has dropped every year since he left Boston.
He's shooting 32% from 3 this year. His 3pt fg% has dropped every year since he left Boston.

Whatever one thinks about Shaq and the Perk/Krstic/Green deal, it doesn't look like retaining Posey would have been a good idea ESPECIALLY for that kind of money over those many years. This is year 3 of his 4 year contract and he's not pulling his weight. NOH had him for 2 years and then traded him and Darren Collison (a good, young up-and-coming point guard) in exchange for Trevor Ariza. Do you think NOH would have traded a backup point guard (who was the backup ONLY because the starter is Chris Paul) and Posey for a 6'8" swingman if they thought the 6'8" swingman they were giving up was worth keeping on the roster?

I think Posey's 3 years of performance in NOH and IND is showing that Danny was right not to sign him for that many years. There's still another year on Posey's contract and his play is heading south like a duck in winter.

The team was playing with House Money and against the Wizards. Do you think the ones you mentioned will be able to produce like that with knife thick cutting pressure brought on by the play offs? I'd be REALLY surprised! Is Shaq's next comeback going to last longer than 5 minutes? No sit downs after the NEXT injury unless you're ready for the Undertaker (not the wrestler) Shaq will need more than Icy Hot, he'll need Darvon, demeral, and Cortisone and lots of it. Too bad General Patton, or even George C. Scott isn't around anymore to rouse him out of sick bay.

MD completely glossed over my comments from yesterday - where I found posts from him from LAST YEAR - where he pulled the same, we are done - the sky is falling act.

He said that if DA didnt help the team to get "younger. more athletic and longer" they were done. Then he goes out and gets Jeff Green, Krstic, Wafer, D West, Avery Bradley - and MD is still not happy.

Some people are incorrigible.

Bob:

You shouldn't judge Posey by what he's done in other circumstances. He had a tailor made situation with the Celtics to be used in the proper context to showcase his abilities and contributions: Thibs & Doc knew this and were able to put him in situations where he had the best chance for success. The coaches he's had since have had no feel for how to use his assets: much like Doc doesn't know how to best use Jeff Green.

Jeb:

I will assuredly pull for the C's in every case. However, considering the current state of affairs, I am not going to be surprised if this year's playoff run resembles a quick cup of coffee with a casual acquaintance.

Gerry Callahan will do anything he can to draw attention to him, and his useless show in the Morning. He spent at least five days belaboring the results of Charlie Sheen's actions every day. What a waste of time, energy and air space. This guy will do anything, say anything to draw attention to himself and his lack of ability to reason is quite obvious. Sure let him take on Danny Ainge, who cares. Do you really think Danny does????? I highly doubt it. Go back in history and see some of the things this guy has written that never ring true. Anything for attention~ What will he say if they win????

GO AHEAD GERRY, LET IT RIP, YOU AND FELGER BELONG TOGETHER.

It was an absurd article.

I guess the Celtics should not show up at all. Without perk we have

no chance to win. Its all danny fault. Run him out of town on a rail.

I say "GOOD!". I hope more writers dump on them.

Maybe it'll fire them up. Maybe it'll make them get their wagons in a circle and develop more comaraderie and chemistry. Maybe it'll anger them and want them to "show the world".

Bottom line, though, is that I don't think any of these articles and rants by writers and talk show hosts will actually have a negative impact on the players or coaches. None whatsoever. They're professionals, they've made it to the mountaintop before and they limped into the playoffs last year too. Our playoff seeding this year is better than it was last year.

They sure seem to have an impact on the psyche of us amateurs though, don't they?

PERK: Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound-more than single rebounds!-He's got his own Batmobile-a stone clone of Lee Majors (Six Million Dollar Man, not Heath Barkley)-He's got Lois Lane thinking he's the Caped Cruisader-Bullets bounce off him -Wizards can't figure him out-Lakers drown when trying to pursue him-George Lucas & Stephen Spielberg are collaborating on a fitting film tribute to this icon of our time- He's the Boston Breaker that hemmorhoid thinkin' Ainge morphed into the Thunder-Boomer-Sooner-Our Man In OKC-The One & Only PERK!

Perk - knew the system, played within himself, made the interior Def that much better as KG didn't have to do it all and most importantly was very essential to team chemistry.

Dealing him was a mistake for a shot at this years title. Anyone who can't see that needs to stop spiking their green kool-aid.

Shaq and JON have been injury prone for years now and thinking they'd both bet 85-90% ready for the playoffs was fool hardy. Having to face the Heat and Bulls on the road in back to back series will be brutal.

I don't have much faith that this team can make the finals. I hope to be proven wrong but it doesn't look good right now.

celticfan,

Maybe I'm wrong, but weren't we likely to face the Bulls and Heat in back-to-back series anyway? Don't you expect both of them to win their first round series?

The only difference is that both of those series will be on the road. I don't think this team cares about that. Been there last year, done that.
