Old song Empty Old song

Post by sinus007 Tue Apr 19, 2011 12:51 pm

Hi,
Paraphrasing an old song - What shall we do with the injured Chauncey?
Should Doc do any adjustments to exploit the absence of CB?
I guess Knicks and Douglas in particular will play in overdrive to compensate for CB. I hope Celtics are aware of it.
How will their 2 stars, Melo and Amare, be kept together without sliding to "me-ball" basketball? Can Celtics push them to it?
I don't know much about Douglas: is he a capable PG? Can RR handle him on both ends?
I know, if Celtics play as they did in 3 and 4 quarter of Game 1 none of the above will matter. But if the opponent shows a weakness why to not use it.
Thoughts, comments?

Thank you very much,
AK

Doc always says winning and losing with this team is about what they do or do not do to execute on both ends. I dont see any reason to change anything to account for Billips being out.

Rondo should be able to go at Douglas on both ends. He is not a very good defender, and his shooting has never been tested in playoff situations.

I had Douglas in my fantasity team. Only thing he lacks that Billups has is experience, personally I think he is a better offensive player than Billups, he's quite a bit quicker but Rondo needs to stay up on him cause he will fire away.............as do most of the Knicks. Douglas had a good year and to think it will be easier if Billups isn't playing is flat out wrong.

Beat

So you see no value in Billups having 11 straight years of playoff experience?

Where did I say that?

I am a lot more concerned about Douglas than BIllups offensively. Sort of the known vs the unknown evil. We know what Billups can do and have a good idea how to play him. Douglas started 6 games in early March for the Knicks, against 4 playoff teams during that time. Team went 4-2, his averages during that spell were good too, 17 PPG, 7 Ast pg, 3 rpg slightly under 2 TO pg, shot 50% or over in all but 1 of these and the one he didn't, he was 4 for 9. Also nailed the three quite well too going 17 for 35 during that stretch. All in about 30 min per game.

No where did I say Billups's 11 years experience has NO VALUE. But if we think his Douglas can't fill his shoes quite well we are grossly mistaken.

Hitting jumpers in games in March is quite different than hitting those shots in May.

I will defer to your assessment on Douglas' skills...but until I see it for myself in a playoff game, I am going to stick with my feeling that I am pleased Billups is out.

I'm sorry Billups is out because I want to beat the Knicks at full strength and with no excuses on their parts. That's the only reason. Billups scares me to death.

Mrkleen, so if he (douglas) falls flat on his face I look sort of like the boy crying wolf.................if he does well (win or loose) I look a little better.

Hey WOLF WOLF WOLF

And when did it get to be MAY already? We still got snow in the front yard! In a later round perhaps but I don't think the pressure will be that great for him now. He may feel like he has to go out and prove something too which can lead to...........? who knows.

Pete

We got 3 inches sunday afternoon but that all melted BUT still have 1 pile left out front where it was piled this winter..............certainly not baseball weather. Marcus was to have a double header tomorrow on our new fields but they alreday cancelled as we are suppose to get 100% chance of rain.

There is a tournament this Saturday and hopefully they get it in. Only have had 3 games with either COLD, WET, WINDY or a combo of 2 of these.

Mrkleen

Nice to be wrong but man do we need to play better. We could just as well be down 2-0 as up.

Wins a win but no one can be really pleased. It was nice to see Rondo take it to the hoop. Got in trouble a couple of times but i'll live with that if the result is 10-11 layups.

Beat – I think this is playoff basketball and the Celtics are still not clicking on all cylinders, yet finding a way to win anyway. I look for them to start pulling it together soon – but I don’t see this team blowing anyone out. Every game is going to be a grind.

The one redeeming factor there is that this team does really well in close games, and Ray seems to be getting his stroke back. Now lets get Baby back on track and Jeff Green a bit more aggressive, and I see big things.
