Hello again
Hi there.
My name is Sara (RUWORTHY at Boston Globe). Been here previously but only made one post. Have been a regular poster over on the Boston Globe forum but have been getting more than a little annoyed at just how juvenile some of the posts are over there. Like it can be fun, but some guys there are just extreme. The Trolls in particular.
About myself?
Born in Australia, but raised in Canada. Moved back to Australia when I was 13. Developed a real love of Basketball thanks to my Dad, who is a massive Celtics fan. My brothers are also Celtics fan. However my younger sister and I are Lakers fans. Fell in love with James Worthy watching my Dads videos and just really loved that era Lakers team. Also a big fan of Shaq. I have no time for Kobe Bryant however. The man is classless.
However because of my Dad's love for the Celtics I have picked up a massive appreciation for the Celtics, which is weird coming from a Lakers fan! But I really am just intrigued and completely taken in by the Celtics teams from the 50's and 60's. Bill Russell is just such an enigma. I must have read his book Second Wind several times, he is besides James Worthy my favourite male Basketball player. I love the 80's sides as well. Our clashes in '84, '85 and '87 are timeless.
Worthy is the main reason I love the Lakers so much. As a little girl I just loved his goggles. In fact I think the main reason I liked the Lakers so much as a girl was because of Worthy's goggles and the teams colours. Other reasons are Magic Johnson with his smile and making the game look so beautiful. A.C. Green for being a great guy. Shaq for just being Shaq. Sad for you guys that he didn't play to his potential last season. Also love our very old history from Minneapolis. It really isn't as respected as much as it should be. For me it was only recognized by management as an attempt to catch up to the Celtics in overall championships. Those men really do deserve their own banners and numbers retired.
Currently at university in my senior year, will be completing my Masters degree in 2012. Prospect of further study looms though. Combine study with work so life is pretty hectic. Also love to travel. There's just not going to be enough time in my life to see absolutely everything I want to see and experience. Big fan of music as well!
Hope to have a lot of fun other here and have some great basketball discussions and learn a fair bit as well. I do remember reading Sam's posts over at Boston Globe and they were always so good. Sorry if I don't remember so many other names. But I'm sure we'll get to know one another

I have a daughter by that name but with an H tacked on at the end. She will be 20 next month and will be a Junior at SUNY Potsdam......and as required in our house, is a Celtic fan and dislikes Bron and the Lakers.
She has changed majors a couple times and even me "dad" is not sure of what it is right now. Working this summer at a local Best Buy as a member of the geek squad.
Glad someone your age can appreciate the history of hoops and not only that but takes the time to study it too. Keep posting. We do need some new knowlegeable folks on here and you and Duke seem to fit the bill.
A hearty welcome from the wilds of the Tug Hill in upstate New York.

Re: Hello again
Welcome Sara,
We have Laker fans here on this board and they are not trolls. I suppose if you can peacefully coexist with most of your family, you should do ok here too. You might even come to realize Father Knows Best. :-)
I live in the San Francisco bay area.

Re: Hello again
Hi Sara - I welcome you! It is so wonderful to have a female basketball fan on this site. Maybe in a while I may be able to turn you into a die hard Celtic fan, which I am. I grew up watching sports of all kinds, football and basketball being my favorites. When I was in high school I really became a huge Celtics fan, lying in bed at night with my transistor radio listening to Johnny Most describe every play to me. This is how I learned about basketball! After high school, while I was in business school I became a season's ticket holder, and followed Bill Russell and his band of talented players win title after title, and make Jerry West's life miserable!
After I got married I gave up my seats, but not my heart. I still followed the Celtics constantly. My favorite players from the Russell era were Russell and Havlicek. I continued on to the 70's, 80's, 90's and am still as devoted right now as I was then. I have stood in line from 2:00 in the morning waiting to
buy tickets to some of the most important games in the Celtics history. The best one was the triple overtime game they played against Phoenix in 1976!
The 1986 Celtics team was one of the most talented teams I have ever watched, after the 1962-63 team. The present team has won my heart as I am a huge Ray Allen fan. Ever since he came into the league I had dreams of him being in Celtic green, so you can imagine my delight when Danny Ainge traded for him!
Well, I have rambled on and on, which is something the guys here will tell you I do periodically. Welcome to our wonderful board, we will try our hardest to make you feel welcome and turn you into a Celtic lover as we all are.
As you can tell, I come from the Boston area, which makes it easier for me
to catch a game every now and then. Let's all hope that this crazy lockout business will end and we can all enjoy good basketball.
WELCOME!!!

Welcome Sara. As I've posted earlier to Duke I will echo those sentiments to you. I still go to BDC daily and I'm very familiar with and have enjoyed reading your posts over there. There are some really great people on this site who bring a treasure trove of knowledge and perspective, both on basketball and life in general. Glad to have you and I know you will fit right in and love it here.

Sara,
Welcome. Good move.
Now, we need a few people from South America and Asia and the forum becomes really global.

sinus,
I seem to remember we had a member from Australia (which is not Asia, it's its own continent, but still) and another from the Phillipines (which is Asia)? I also seem to remember we had on from Puerto Rico? I'm not sure about those. We also have some members from Nepal. I know, because I recruited them when I went to Nepal last Oct/Nov.
I hope that when we have some actual basketball to talk about the ranks will fill out even more.

Re: Hello again
Bob,
I didn't know about a member from Australia. I was referring to Sara.
Also, I didn't remember about members from Philippines and Nepal.
As for Puerto Rico, it's considered to be NA. If Celtics, say, get AV from Cle we might get a member from Brazil.
Of course, there's Antarctica where there's no permanent population. But I bet there's at least one Celtics fan on one of those stations.

Re: Hello again
Hi Sara,
My wife also has your name, but with the same "h" as Beat's daughter.
Welcome to the board. We hope you'll post early and often, especially when there's basketball to post about.
I learned a lot from our Lakers fans on the board. I very much appreciate that, if there were no Lakers, there would be no Celtics. And the civil presence of the Lakers fans make us better Celtics fans too.
I have to agree about Worthy. I thought the dimension James added to the Lakers was actually more unique than that of either Magic or Kareem (although both were great players). Worthy was always the one I was most scared of in the 80s. Funny you mention the goggles. I always thought the goggles made him look sort of like a racehorse, which is precisely what he was.
I believe the Australian's board name was Soprecise. I recall that he was the first one to suggest that we all post profiles of ourselves on the board; and, ironically, you're following in his tradition. And, 1986 is a Filipino who's a member of this board, although I believe he posts mainly on BDC. There are actually 50 Filipino Celtics fans who often watch games together at a sports bar, have formed a Celtics club, and even have a Celtics library (to which I've sent a few things). Bert is an amazingly articulate Filipino sports writer who is at BDC and hasn't joined this board but has sent many copies of a magazine ("Tower Sports") for which he has written—often about the Celtics. I believe the Puerto Rican member of this board (although he doesn't post often) is "International" (although it's spelled "Intelnational" on this board).
Congratulations on looking forward to a Master's Degree and further study. What's your major? Best of luck in your future academic career, and it will be a pleasure to see you posting here.
Thanks for joining,
Sam

Re: Hello again
Hi Sara,
Welcome to the board. Let me first tell you what a great bunch of people that have come together here at Sam's Celtics Forum. I am not sure if you remember me from BDC. I started over at BDC just like most here. I started out with the name of SDLaker about three years ago, but changed it to MustangGator out of respect for Sam, and some of the other Celtic fans I became fond of. I followed the group over to here shortly after this forum started. I have really grown to respect the Celtics and their true fans. Everyone here are true, loyal, and dedicated Celtic Fans. Really smart when talking about basketball.
I am also a Lakers Fan. I am 50 years old and became a Lakers fan in the early 70's because of Jerry West and also the Lakers colors. I was given a toy at Christmas called Instant Replay that had a voice recording of Chick Hearn announcing a clip of Jerry West driving the lane and scoring. I was hooked after that. It also helped that I am from California I guess. As a youngster I was drawn to teams that caught my eye with their team colors. I also loved the 80's showtime Lakers.
I have had the pleasure of meeting in person Sam, Mrs Sam, Bobheckler, and Jeb. Definately a high point for me. I will never forget the time I spent with them. What a great bunch of people. You cannot find a better, more caring person than Sam. Sometimes I sit back and am really amazed how it came about that I would meet Sam. He from Boston, me from San Diego; East Coast versus West Coast, Celtics Fan - Lakers Fan. In a sports forum where yoou don't know anyones true identity or contact information. Out of respect for Sam I won't talk about the generation difference, LOL.
I don't post all that much, but read the board at least 2-3 times a week minimum. Call it my new drug. I have become a little addicted to the board. Can't help myself. I will post more once the season gets going, if the season gets going. Anyway, welsome to the board and nice to have another Lakers Fan.
Boy I got wordy for someone who doesn't post much.
Take care Sara and all.
MG

Duke,
Just in case you get a slow response from NYCelt, you should know that he and his family are currently on vacation on Cape Cod. In fact, we hope to have lunch with them tomorrow. He does have a computer with him but told me he is checking it only once an evening. He works extremely hard and deserves the break. My wife and I think that he and his wife, along with really work at parenting.Beat and his wife, represent the reason why God invented parents.

Re: Hello again

I almost read you responce to Duke as, beat my wife.......
only if she deserves it, so far she hasn't.
But speaking of a beating you had ought to see the right side of my back.
About 2 weeks ago I ended up pitching batting practice to some of Marcus's baseball team. I was not that far away about 35 feet so that my 50 MPH fastball would seem closer to 80. I was behind what is refered to an L screen. Well sort of behind it. Kid rips a liner right back at the open upper half where I throw the ball and it got me good lower right back.
Last friday Marcus and I went down to school as he wanted to hit some. Again got the L screen out and again from about 35 ifeet away he got me about 6 inches above the other mark. I now have 2 softball size red, black and blue marks on me.
He is suppose to play tonight in the Local American Leigion League Championship game (weather permitting).
Just got done building his new mound out back so he can go out there and throw and get his motion back. Still needs a lot of work but he seems to be coming around.
I'll try an post some photos tomorrow.
PS Sarah has her new 2011 Kia Rio..............she washes it almost every day. School for in another month.
And Marcus informed me yesterday there are 38 days left......till SU footballs first home game and we again (third year in a row)have our season tickets section 327 top row seats 1 and 2 end zone. Love the fellow fans in our section!

Pete,
How about just sitting back and watching some Celtic Hoops?
That would be refreshing!
I just don't feel to good about there even being a season, it hasn't got to the point where either the owners or the players feel a need to get moving on a deal. But that date has to be looming not to far away.
