Re: Call Me Coach!
Tell him I saw Lebron James do that several times. It's not true, but tell him anyway.

Poor kid. Sounds like he forgot the first rule of basketball in third grade, which is to have fun. Like you say, time heals quickly at that age.
As they say, every setback is an opportunity for a comeback, and comebacks are the most fun. I hope he has a nice comeback game tonight.

Oh Bob
To be in your shoes with little fragile egos. Seems you might have some overly emotional kids!
Hope the little guy has his wits about him this eve!
Not that you can or should do this, but several years ago in a baseball tournament. Little league age, You played 3 games and the opposing coach would pick a player on the other team to recieve a ball which said he was an MVP. Well after our first 2 games we played a team that wasn't very good. I knew their scorekeeper so I asked after the game.. "Lori, you know these kids better than I, no kid stood out more than any other so which kid would winning this award mean the most too?" Without any hesitation she told me which kid and presenting him with the ball is still one of the moments I will always remember.
If there was any way to set it up to at least give him a great chance to score early that would perhaps put him at ease. But I know the skill level is sort of low so actually doing anything may be tough.
A part of me also says to do nothing special at all and treat the last game as if it never happened. Kid sees that it's a new game and perhaps he'll forget the previous one.... if he has not already.
Do let us know how this episode turns out!

Wonder how Bobby Knight would have handled this?

Beat,
As far as I can tell there was no carryover, thankfully. Nobody mentioned it and he played his usual game.
I did instruct the guards to get him some early shots, alas he missed them all but the "glimmer" was they all were at the right goal.
