Knicks closing in?
They still need to learn to play defense, solidify their bench, and questions exist at G.
Not much to question about their starting front line however, and rookie PG Iman Shumpert looks pretty darn good.
Their roster is listed below. Championship material? Maybe not; but a decent base to build from.
Is it time to expect a little pressure from the Knicks?
Anthony, Carmelo F/SF
Balkman, Renaldo PF
Bibby, Mike PG
Chandler, Tyson C
Davis, Baron PG
Douglas, Toney G/PG
Fields, Landry GF/SG
Green, Devin SG
Harrellson, Josh C
Hunter, Chris FC
Jeffries, Jared FC/SF
Jordan, Jerome C
Shumpert, Iman G
Stoudemire, Amar'e FC/PF/C
Walker, Bill GF/FG

Re: Knicks closing in?
Knicks are certainly in the Top 5 or 6 in the East.....but I dont see them on the same level as the Celtics just yet. They have no PG - and no real answer for Ray Allen.
I think it breaks down as
Miami - Chicago
Boston - Orlando
Atlanta - NY Knicks - Indiana - Philly

Re: Knicks closing in?
I agree for the most part with mrkleen's assessment, though I don't think Orlando will do that well. I'd throw Orlando in with the last group and say any of them could wind up in almost any position. The Knicks will be better, and so will Indiana and Philly. I never quite know what to do with Atlanta. Milwaukee might break back into the playoffs, but I'm not sure who on this list I'd say they bump out, though injuries and befuddling bad play will probably strike somewhere. Unless the Nets land Dwight, they'll probably be on the outside looking in again (and likely lose Deron Williams).mrkleen09 wrote:I think it breaks down as

But as far as the main point of this thread, the Knicks will be better, as will most of the Atlantic Division. The division has been pretty lame for a while, and since these things go in cycles, it's time for somebody to get better.

I'd move the Knicks up to 4th, behind Boston. I don't see Orlando or Atlanta being better.
I hope I'm wrong. I loathe D'Antoni-style all-offense-no-defense basketball.

As long as the Knicks have no center and no PG...I cant see them above Orlando....but just my opinion.

Think between Amari and Chandler the 5 is covered against most teams. As for the point the ball runs thru Melo's hands a good chunk of the time, would not surprise me but he might lead the team in assists. Davis and Dougles are more shooters than distributers anyway. Bibby is below average at best at the point but he does have a nice cast around him, might make him better than what he is.

It would not surprise me they finish in the top 4 in the east. Might even finish ahead of the C's, I shudder to think that but It very well could happen.

Re: Knicks closing in?
Forgot about Chandler, but still not that worried about the Knicks.
Amare and Carmello are good for disappearing down the stretch in big games, and with Douglas running the point - Rondo will eat him alive.
We shall see.
