Tony Kornheiser's View!
Yesterday on PTI Kornheiser & Wilbon had occasion to banter about the hot start by the C's relating it to a possible 70 win season. Tony made a valid point that the C's were too smart to get caught up in treating the season like a sprint. It plays more like a marathon. Of course you try to win each time you take to the hardwood, but schedule, injuries, travel, and fatigue being what it is there are some games you just won't be able to bring your "A" game. Some of those games you can grind out and get the "W". I am prepared for those few games this year where we can't and will look like a very old team. This hasn't happened yet. Tony's point being, the Celtics have the, "Big Picture" in mind, that being Banner # 18, and being fresh enough to give an all-out effort to that end, once the play-offs start in April '10.-MD.

glad you caught that tidbit, MD. i still think of Kornheiser as a humor writer more than a real sports writer, but that point about it actually being a marathon is certainly well taken.
so, question: is KG getting too many minutes, or is he getting rested enough in these early games? same could be asked of PP and Ray ...

Re: Tony Kornheiser's View!
I agree with Kornheiser. They'll not jeopardize their shot at #18 by overplaying their older players just to win a game that won't affect their playoff rankings.
Doc was asked what he'd like and he said he'd like the Celtics to be like the '85 Chicago Bears defense. He's from Chicago and is understandably biased, many consider the Iron Curtain of Jack Lambert and the Pittsburgh Steelers to be the best, but what's revealing about Doc's statement is what he didn't say. He didn't say he'd like them to be like Michael Jordan's '95 Bulls that had the 72-10 record. Doc's focused on defense, which wins championships, not win-loss records.

Re: Tony Kornheiser's View!
I saw that as well. Here's how I judge how well the season is going and what results have merit.
I make it a 10 team league Chicago,Cleveland,Orlando,LA,SanA,Denver,Phoenix,Houston,Utah, and Dallas.Count up your record and point differential against these 10.These are the best teams--these are the games you'll be "up" for every time.
During the course of a long season an away game in Wash,NJ,Okla city really doesn't gauge too much.--thus we get last nite in Minn.

DJ: I hope the "off" night isn't against Washington on 2/1/10, since I have a seat center court for that game the Celts play the Wizards at the Verizon Center that evening.-MD.

Re: Tony Kornheiser's View!
Let me clarify.....even blowout wins against the "downtrodden" mean very little in the grand scheme of things.
It's all about the "big boys".
It's all about the "big boys".

Blah blah blah. Damn tony said that? I think the most important thing is that Doc let his bench...specialy guys like Shelden who are rebuilding their confidence...stay in the game when the fire is hot and the game is in the balance. PP played 41 minutes last nite in a game that as DJ said really didn't matter. That cant happen all year. Doc has to stay with the bench and if they lose a few they lose a few.
Imagine Shelden if he hits a baby against orlando type shot to win a game,...team bumrushes him. He glows. He wakes up to who he is and what he can be.
ANy ol way thats what I think.

"hits a baby". What a great term to describe a bench player coming up big in a big game. I love it.

My boy Jeb can spin the english language --- many times have to pull out my "jeb to english" dictionary to filter out the meaning. But you get em on the hardwood or tennis hardcourt--no words need be spoken.
