Steamer named to US Select Team

Boston Celtics rookie center Greg Stiemsma and Lance Thomas of the New Orleans Hornets have been added to the select team of young players that will train against the U.S. men's Olympic basketball team.

Also, USA Basketball has announced that Orlando forward Ryan Anderson has withdrawn, leaving the roster at 14 players. USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said Wednesday the Americans were committed to inviting two players from their Pan American Games team that won a bronze medal last summer.

The select team will train against the Americans in Las Vegas from July 6-11. The roster also includes Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving, Jeremy Lin, John Wall, Kawhi Leonard, DeJuan Blair, DeMarcus Cousins, DeMar DeRozan, Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward, Paul George, Taj Gibson and Klay Thompson.

My Note: Personally, I'd rather see him rest his foot, but this is an honor for someone who was undrafted and was as far down the Celtic bench in January as you could be.

I thought he needed to be operated on. I thought he had issues with both feet.

I think USA Basketball will be sad to learn the truth about his injuries after the playoffs are over.

He had a bone bruise in one foot and plantar fasciitis in the other. Neither of them require operations, just rest.

The plantar fasciitis can persist even with rest if the foot and calf muscles are not stretched properly.
