Re: POST GAME BROOKLYN
112288 wrote:Intellectually dishonest is not a slur. It's used every day in life, business and intellectual discussions. It was even used by the President in the debates!
The definition is as follows:
"An argument which is misused to advance an agenda or to reinforce one's deeply held beliefs in the face of overwhelming evidence contrary."
If you did not see the replay (over and over) from several angles which was verified by others on the board, and you are only relying on one still photograph to support your argument, then how do you know your are absolutely right! Maybe your compass is off....maybe not.
The more intellectual approach would have been to just say that we agree that we disagree which I did. I also wished you a happy holiday.......
Some times we all need hugs....so my hugs go out to you....peace!

I saw the Collins replay a few times during the game, probably the same amount of times as you did.
I could not find a video of it and apparently you couldn't either as I asked you to post it.
Thompson was clearly hit in the face which was backed by the referees and the photos.
Not believe the evidence presented to you is being intellectually dishonest.
I was the one that had the overwhelming evidence and I am intellectually dishonest?
Who verified your version of what happened, kleen? He said: "The play last night wasn't even a foul".
Really?
You made many flippant comments to me including "the California fog is clouding my vision and thought process" and that when I cannot use the facts I tend to use distortion... (I was the only one that used the facts in the Cleveland thread). After making negative personal comment after negative comment to me, your wishing me happy holidays doesn't come across as genuine at all.
Happy Holidays.

Re: POST GAME BROOKLYN
To Whom It May Concern:
Well, here's the official word from moderator land. I've repeated this frequently—more often than I would have hoped on a forum whose identity is supposed to be closely linked with conviviality.
On this forum, disagreeing on a topic is perfectly fine. Making the disagreement personal is not fine. It's very simple. Points can successfully be made, pro or con, without gratuitous, repeated, snide comments on the habits, personality, location, basketball experience, age, or other attributes of the opposing party.
Even if it weren't a season when the spirit of good will is supposed to be elevated; even if it weren't a time when 26 innocent people are being buried in Newtown, Connecticut; even if people weren't voluntarily putting themselves in harm's way daily in order to protect (among other things) our freedom of speech; simply the fact of being adults with a love of pro basketball in common should infuse all of us with a reasonably appropriate perspective.
Diplomacy sometimes requires more work than insulting, hurtful or inflammatory shots-from-the-hip. Here's a tip. Please do the work!
Thank you, and happy, safe holidays to all of you and yours.
