Shelvin Mack Signs with the Wizards
I had hoped the Celtics might consider Shelvin Mack as a backup pg, but Washington (for whom he played a number of games a year-or-so ago) signed him again.

Re: Shelvin Mack Signs with the Wizards
Good for him. Merry Christmas, Shelvin Mack. Best gift he's ever gotten, I can guarantee that.
We need a veteran NBA point guard, IMO. We can't bring someone with no experience running an NBA club in mid-season like this and just hand them the ball. While Mack might deserve a shot at the NBA, and if he's available next season we can bring him back, I don't think he's the guy to get us over the hump now. We need someone whose NBA learning curve has largely flattened out and would just need to learn Doc's playbook and develop chemistry with the 2nd unit players. Mack might know Doc's playbook from his Maine stint, but he's very new to the NBA.

Re: Shelvin Mack Signs with the Wizards
Bob,
The thing I liked about him, regardless of his lack of big league experience, was that he was a legitimate point guard. I think I'd rather have a pg who's pretty good and could get even better within the "womb" of the Celtics veteran core than another more experienced combo guard who can "play some point" (how I've gotten to detest those words).
Of course, the availability of Mack is now moot.
Obviously, the best case would be a legitimate, pass-first pg with experience. I've gone to several sites to look up free agent pgs, and they're actually listing some guys who haven't played in the NBA for two years. Seems to be a pretty rare commodity.
