Sully Loves Being the Underdog
In his hometown of Columbus, OH doing some charity stuff and to help promote his father's new book (I'll bet that's an interesting read).
I love this kid's attitude. His family did a phenomenal job bringing him, and his two also very talented brothers, up.
One year, not even, into his NBA career and you can already hear him talking like a vet. Sully's a blue chip. He might have that upside that produces a meteoric ascent that some players will have, but he'll be as dependable as the sun rising in the east in the morning.
Sully is a prime example of why I have trouble second-guessing Danny's draft picks. Sure, he selects some Melos and Marcus Banks and Jerome Moiso's (Moiso was a lottery #11) but the draft is a crap shoot and he throws some 7s too. When he took Sully at 21 last year, I was online, on this board, on the draft day thread. I remember how every single one of us completely lost it when his name was called (Sam was already dreaming of his next trip to Paris by then after Houston took Royce White earlier. Talk about a crap shoot). I started searching the shed for a pitchfork and some flammable fluids. The year before Sully the #21 picks was Nolan Smith, the PG that is trying to catch on with us now (he was on our Orlando roster but hurt his leg in game 1 and missed the rest of the week). Valenciunas was the #5 pick that year and Kenneth "The Manimal" Faried was #22, right behind Smith. Who would you rather have of those three now? He took a one-and-done freshman out of Texas @21 and now he's one of the top on-the-ball defenders in the league. This year he moved up to take Kelly Olynyk at 13. Another Hindenburg-like crash on the draft day thread. What! He didn't take Mason Plumlee?! Nor Gorgui Dieng?! Freaking Danny. After watching KO play in Orlando (and ending up at #1 on the rookie ladder) I think it's safe to say our collective opinions have improved somewhat.
Ya neva know. Ya just neva know.

Re: Sully Loves Being the Underdog
Bob. I for one never question Danny's draft picks or trades. I have enormous respect for the man, perhaps because I had to endure the Chris Wallace years.

Bob,
Heck, I'm always dreaming about Paris, and I'm still pissed that I didn't get to Paris this year. But we'll make up for it in April with a two-week visit, this time renting an apartment for the first time. I hope I won't be reading about any serious Celtics injuries in the International Herald Tribune.

Only joking. In the words of Paul Newman, "When you've got steak at home, why go out for hamburger?"

Worcester,
I've always loved the stories where the good guy gets the girl in the end.
Congrats.
