Celtics now $200k Below Luxury Tax Line

The Boston Celtics are $200,000 under the luxury tax threshold after waiving Donte Greene on Tuesday.
The Celtics are now playing $71.2 million in salaries for the 13-14 season.
Greene was acquired in an August trade for Fab Melo.

MY NOTE: So, no Shav. Pretty much nobody else, period, unless Danny can pull off a trade, even a one-for-one, in which we have a net loss of payroll on the deal. That would increase the gap between our payroll and the luxury tax line, perhaps enough to sign a minimum player (since I think the league picks up some of that money). Danny's GOTTA do something, we have one of the most unbalanced rosters I've ever seen.

bob,
The final number conflicts with what I have been reading. I have read that there is room enough for a rookie contract. I am not saying this report is wrong, just that it might be.

The Celtics would drop another $900,000 under the cap if they followed Bob Heckler's suggestion of swapping Wallace for Varejao. I guess I could live with Bogans as the backup SF and maybe Sims in reserve. This is the season to take a few calculated personnel risks, try a lot of combinations, and experiment with systemic styles.
