Maine Red Claws Acquire 7-Foot Zeke Marshall

PORTLAND, Maine - December 10, 2013 - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, today announced the team has acquired center Zeke Marshall (pending a physical) in a three-team trade with the Reno Bighorns and the Santa Cruz Warriors. Maine will send their 2014 first round draft pick to Santa Cruz and in addition will re-acquire their second round pick for next year's draft that was sent to the Warriors last month as part of the trade that helped the Red Claws acquire starting point guard Abdul Gaddy. Santa Cruz will also send Mickell Gladness to Reno.

A rookie center out of the University of Akron, Marshall most recently played for Yulon Luxgen in the Taiwan Super Basketball League with averages of 12.7 points and 4.0 rebounds. Collegiately, Marshall posted career averages 9.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks over the course of 138 games for the Zips, while becoming the all-time leading shot blocker in the history of the University of Akron and the Mid-American Conference (MAC) with 368. In his senior season, Marshall averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game, and was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and was a member of the All-MAC First Team.

MY NOTE: Ladies and Gentleman, your NEW Boston Celtics starting center! Ok, maybe not, but he is 7'0" with an impressive wingspan and is good at shot blocking. His rebounding, for his size, is clearly inadequate. At 235# he's not going to do a better job of keeping Lopez out of the paint either. Still, a shot blocker, that'd be nice. Good luck to him. Let's hope the Red Claws have as good an eye for talent as Danny.

Bob,

Haven't I heard roughly that same description within the past year-or-so?
