Rockets Perplexed by Asik's Slow Recovery
EITHER, Asik is damaged goods (a simple injury is not 'damaged goods' but recurring injuries or ones that don't respond to treatment are) and their asking price is ridiculous OR we should think twice about him. If they say "the symptomes are not going the way the doctors think", I'm assuming that means that the doctors are observing those symptoms and are not just taking Asik's word for them.

The Rockets were not only still without center Omer Asik – and will not have him for the immediate future at least – they were also still unsure why he has been unable to make improvement from his injury.
“He had some swelling again in his knee,” (Kevin) McHale said. “It seems like he amps it up to a certain level and it swells up again. They’re still trying to figure out what’s causing that swelling when he gets up to a certain level of activity. They MRI, they sent it out again for certain people to look at again. His symptoms are not going the way the doctors think they should be.”

I'll pass.
No use for a big with bad knees. He'd spend more time on IR than on the court.
And surely a report like this hurts his trade value. Certainly not the news they were hoping for, as now there's no way they can secure top dollar for him.

Re: Rockets Perplexed by Asik's Slow Recovery
None of us really know what type of offers where made by the Celtics or other teams regarding Asik.
There were reports circulated by the media that Boston was willing to trade bass, Lee and a 1st rounder for Asik. I actually convinced myself that that was acceptable compensation.
In retrospect it would have been a questionable trade in terms of VALUE. Asik has a really bad attitude. He is a prima donna. He gets paid big money to play basketball but would rather bitch and moan because he is expected to be a backup to Dwight Howard. HE demands a trade like he is some big time player. The Rockets tried to play him at and Howard together but that did not work. Now he has a problem with his thigh or knee or something so he cannot play.
Why would any team let along the Celtics be willing to trade two very solid players and a first rounder for a guy that had one decent year playing in the NBA? Well we need a center so yeah let's make the deal. Right? Wrong! I am not convinced that Omer Asik is the center we should seek.
The Rockets had a great opportunity to rid themselves of this drama but instead they over valued his worth. If they are still hell bent on moving him this season they will get much less than what Boston was willing to give them.
The 2014 1st rounder from the Nets is starting to look more interesting because Horford is gone and Atl does not have enough bigs to win.
I predict that the Hawks will start to slide and will end up out of the playoffs. I also doubt that the Nets will make the playoffs. They are a cut below horrible. That means there are two lottery picks in waiting and we get one of them.
Future Nets picks are also likely to be lottery selections given the makeup of the team. They actually need to rebuild all over again.
The point is that the Celtics should consider how these draft picks could bring us some top of the line young talent over the next few years. So if they decide to use one or more in a trade they need to be certain that the Value of the player that they get is substantially better than the Omer Asik's of the world.

Finally...a legitimate reason not to go all-out for a stud center when he's available.
