The Boston Celtics announced that they have assigned shooting guard MarShon Brooks to their NBA Developmental League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.
Brooks, now in his third season, has played in only nine games for the Celtics this season, averaging 3.2 points per game on 40 percent shooting. His playing time has, for the most part, come in garbage time late in the fourth quarter.
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard played just under 30 minutes per game in his rookie season with the Nets, but saw that playing time cut in half last year.
This will be the Brooks' first stint in the NBA D-League. Since Brooks will likely start, he will receive the opportunity to progress his skills as a player, which is something he hasn't been able to do while sitting on the bench in Boston.
It also allows the Celtics to potentially showcase him as potential trade bait, since Brooks is only 24-years-old and still has loads of potential on the offensive end of the floor.

He may as well do something with his time other than being attached to the bench.

If Rondo does a stint in Maine, to get his timing back and rust off, this might be the best learning opportunity Marshon Brooks could ever get because he'll have better chemistry with Rondo than anybody else on the Red Claws.
Bottom line: If you're not a well-seasoned veteran like Bogans who knows how to ride this out mentally and physically, and you're not getting off the bench, playing solid minutes almost anywhere is better for you.

I'm not sure whether being a big fish in a little pond will address his shooting mentality in a positive way, but I wish him luck up there. At least Brad won't have to decide which of Brooks or Bogans to make a civilian each night.
