Which one of the following Celtics would you offer to Houston for Asik?
POLL: Whom would you offer the Rockets for Asik?
Suppose the Celtics were to make another run at Omer Asik before the trading deadline. Taking everything into consideration (including likely appeal to Houston and likely building block for the Celtics), which one of these three Celtics would you offer Houston? And why?
(Note: Yes, I know there are other Celtics and everyone would prefer to offer a tube of toothpaste and two safety pins, but I've deliberately limited the possibilities to these three. I did include an option of "None of the above" which could mean either you refuse to part with any of the three or you you wouldn't support a trade for Asik.)
Thanks for voting and stating your rationale.
In case they're helpful, I'm including some stats for each of the three before the Wednesday game:
Age: Bass 28, Humphries 28, Green 27
Ht: Bass 6' 8", Humphries 6' 9", Green 6' 9"
Wt: Bass 240, Humphries 235, Green 235
FG %: Bass 46.4%, Humphries 52.6%, Green 43.8%
FT %: Bass 83.7%, Humphries 87.5%, Green 77.2%
Pts per 36 min.: Bass 13.8, Humphries 14.0, Green 17.2
Reb per 36 min.: Bass 7.7, Humphries 10.8, Green 5.4
PF per 36 min.: Bass 3.4, Humphries 3.7, Green 2.2
Blocks per 36 min.: Bass 1.4, Humphries 2.1, Green 0.6
Min. per game: Bass 28.6, Humphries 18.6, Green 33.0

Re: POLL: Whom would you offer the Rockets for Asik?
None of the above.
I would have picked Gerald Wallace, if the option were given. The trade works straight up, 1-1.:
http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6407252
I would throw in the recently acquired 1st round pick (from Phillv via GSW) and maybe another 2nd rounder or two. IMO, he has become too vocal, in a negative manor, for my liking. Get your own house in order before complaining about others.
I would throw in Bogans and another 1st rounder (with a player coming back from the Rockets) in order to match the salaries.
Wallace has two years left, at $10M per. Asik had a $15M salary next year. Those two balance out, more or less. Wallace can play small to big (some at 2, good at 3, some at 4) so he fills lots of needs. The Rockets are a playoff team, so maybe that will keep Wallace happy.
Sam, I know the above doesn't fall into your request for this thread, but maybe this will:
Of the three listed above, I would like to keep Green and Humphries. I would trade Bass, but he would need someone else added to the trade in order to match salaries. I would do Bass and Bogans, and it works:
http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6407257
Don't get me wrong, I believe that Bass is a good player. I would keep Humphries over Bass for the following reasons;
1. Humphries doesn't mind coming off the bench and has no problem doing so.
2. Humphries can fill in at the 5 when paired up with Sully.
3. Humphries is an expiring contract and can be just let go if his salary needs are too high after this season.
4. Mr. Consistency?

I voted to trade Bass, although I was tempted to vote for Green. Maybe when Rondo comes back Green's game will pick up but he's been underwhelming so far this year. Still Bass would be more logical because we're loaded at the power forward position.

Bass
along with a couple second round picks, since Ainge seems to be stocking up on them.

Re: POLL: Whom would you offer the Rockets for Asik?
Well.. Taking all your criteria into account I think first we have to consider Houston's needs. A four to go along with dwightmare. While green can play the 4, that doesn't mean he is one, so we,Re reduced to the Hump and Bass.
Looking at multiple angles I'm more in favor of packaging bass then sending Hump. For one, I like the idea of reducing the payroll even more this year, and for next, and think if we are going to include a first, the least they can do is also take either Bogons or Fav as well.
Secondly, I think Hump is better suited to play the 5 than Bass, and with Sully and k.o. And a sprinkle of Green I think we got all the four we need.
Hump I bet would be willing to resign for less than what bass makes this year, which fits n with my reduce salery next season idea, or I bet could still be traded for spare parts this season and some sort of draft pick.
Considering what he was once married to, Hump needs somthing good in his life to reidentify himself with.. this is a nice guy who deserves a break- who wouldn't rather be known as a Celtic then they guy who married a K.... Ewwww

Re: POLL: Whom would you offer the Rockets for Asik?
I chose Humphries although I agree with GYSO that Wallace is the dark energy and financial anchor that slows down the voyage.
I think legit arguments can be made to trade Bass over Humprhies.
They both add value but with Humphries having an expiring contract with no guarantee that he will be back, I would move him first.
Bass is probably best at defending the 3 and although undersized does a good job defending the 4.
Kris has been a pretty good F/C. He just knows how to play basketball.
I think the question that is most relevant has nothing to do with either of them.
The real question is KO.
If we trade Bass and Hunp walks at the end of the year we are left with Sully and KO. Unfortunately KO has not shown us enough to pencil him in as a reliable backup F/C.
Therefore I would keep Bass because he is already under contract. Of course if you want to gamble in hopes of landing one of those high end Forwards that will be coming out in the draft, pull the trigger.
The Celtics should first determine if they can resign Humphries and what will it cost to do so. But they should not trade bass unless they Know Hump will resign with the club.
A trade must made if we are going to land a center. Asik is not an allstar center but he can sure up our deficiency in the middle.

Hi,
I voted for Hump.
I think he's a better player, so from Houston stand point they'd want him over Bass. From Celtics stand point it's not a big deal since we have Sully.

Plan for 2-4 years down the road. As much as possible, cut the payroll to expiring contracts while accumulating talented young players or draft picks. Then via the draft, free agency or trades, go for at least 2 HIGH SCORING ALLSTARS. Spend the big bucks on the super star scorers first, then build around them.

As much as I like him, I voted for Hump.
Who knows if he will stick around after the year is over? May as well get some value for him.
I'd keep Green and Bass for now. Gotta have some decent rotation players when building a better team.

Re: POLL: Whom would you offer the Rockets for Asik?
Interesting comments. I appreciate all of the expressed concerns about what would be most attractive to the Rockets. Somehow, all things considered, I can't see Wallace and his contract as that commodity. I think the likelihood is that Houston would be looking for a PF who could complement Howard without getting in his way. Either Bass or Humphries would add mid-range shooting and defense to the party, while Green would add slashing/long ball/transition versatility at two positions and athleticism up front that would complement Howard's bulk. I just have the funny feeling the Rockets would opt for Green's versatility.
It's interesting to conjecture. Thanks to those who have voted.

Wallace likely won't be moved any time soon, at least until his contract is an expiring one.
They'll just have to eat that one.

Just thought I'd throw this in.
Another POS on the Yahoo Contributor Network (aka "crap written by know-nothings"), which is why I'm not posting it but the writer, a Rocket fan, suggests
Rondo and Bass for Lin, Asik and the Rockets' 2014 1st round pick (#24 or 25 as of today and would be worth less as Houston improves with this trade).
Just thought I'd post this to lighten up your day and make you laugh.

I don't really want to trade for Asik. I'd be ok with Bass or Humphries.

That is laughable, Bob. Unless you're a Rockets fan.
