State of the Forum as of January 24, 2014
In the daily hustle bustle of chatter, this forum quietly passed a milestone recently. As of this moment, we have made a total of 101,466 posts. We have 242 registered members, although my estimate has been that we might have something like 50 who post with some kind of frequency. During the past couple of months, we have been gratified to have gained several new members and to have the pleasure of reconnecting with some old friends.
It has never been our goal to attract huge numbers of members. We have focused instead on maintaining convivial, knowledgeable conversation rather than inviting the kind of antagonistic tone that swells membership in some Celtics message boards. We do have a lot of visitors, and we're trying to figure out a way to persuade them to become members since membership is entirely free. If anyone has any ideas on that score, we'd be happy to learn about them.
In the meantime, hearty congratulations and thanks to those who perpetuate the spirit of the Celtics by posting here. You are all very much appreciated.
All the best, and Go Celtics!

Soooooooo much better than the old BDC days.
Although we don't always agree, points are made and accepted.
Now if we can just continue to improve (the team not the board)

One thing that I always check, and am always amazed at, is the number of guests we have reading the board at any given time. There are, usually, more guests than registered members. I don't understand why they don't register and give their 2c, it's free and we don't bite (I occasionally nip a bit), but it's gratifying to know that so many people think this board has something worth reading.
And that's because of all of you.

I love this board, its like a second home just about.
Ive not posted as much as I used to, my wife and I are trying to live a more simple life, no T.V. and we just use her work internet when she's working from home, meaning I usually only have cell fone access.. we're trying to put the few dollars of savings towards more vacations.
Despite that, I think I read every single thread on here and I love the unique, family like atmosphere. As has been mentioned, its a curious fact though, why some of the visitors don't join in. Danny, Wyc, you don't even have to give us your real names... c'mon ya'lll know ya want to!!

Although I'm only a bench player with about 2,000 entries compared to the starters with 10,000+ posts, it's still a real joy to be on this team.
Re: State of the Forum as of January 24, 2014
Worcester, there's no such thing as a bench player on this board. People post at a pace that's consistent with their schedules, and we all have different schedules. In terms of the relative importance of people, I can't think of any other entity I'm associated with that's as egalitarian as this forum. And one of the main reasons is that we exist because of ideas; and I know of no way to measure all the facets of an idea's importance.

I enjoy the intelligent and insightful conversations that are held here. Most internet communities are not blessed with members exhibiting such respect and etiquette.

kdp,
You're only a newbie until your first post. At number 17, you're now a veteran, and we're allowed to offer you a mid-level exemption. You are now officially exempt from basketball depression because it's only a game.

It may only be a game, but, it is a way of life too. Being able to come to a place and talk to so many of you who have been around since BDC days, then share our thoughts with new people is wonderful. If only Jeb were here now to see what we have grown into!
Thank you to everyone for sharing you thoughts, putting up with a female, and supporting me through the tough times. I look forward with anticipation to meeting some of you in March!!!

Re: State of the Forum as of January 24, 2014
The conversations beyond basketball and the in person meet ups are what makes this board different. The general poor attitude and personal attacks that dominate so many other message boards on the internet are down to one thing. It is easy to be a jerk when you are anonymous. When you know and care about someone as a person, you are less likely to take it that far.
So while I dont always agree with everything out here....it is never personal. We can disagree without being disagreeable.
As an aside - that is great Beat. Give our best to Marcus - tell him to keep it up. Great stuff so far.

The appreciation of this Forum is not just felt by Celtics fans.
Even though it says I have been a member since 2010, I actually started in 2009 and closed out my old name because the fire was getting a little hot for me.
Seriously, I am appreciative that the opinions of a Lakers fan can be taken seriously and that I am respected here.
Mustang Gator, where are you??????
Here's to another 100,000 posts....
Thanks Sam and everyone else for making this possible.

Thanks Beat, we go back so long, it seems like forever. Likewise for me, I had told my husband you (other than Jeb and Sam) are my oldest friends on line with the Celtics
We will meet one day! Priorities come first.

I am in occasional touch with both Mustang and Baby Sky Hook. They're both on to other things in their lives, but you can never tell.....
