Celtics To Keep Chris Johnson
According to Woj, who is rarely wrong on these things, the Celtics plan to sign Chris Johnson for the rest of the season.

Celtics will sign forward for remainder of the season
By Adrian Wojnarowski
Yahoo Sports
After two successful 10-day contract performances, the Boston Celtics will sign forward Chris Johnson for the rest of the season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Boston's front office and coaching staff had been fond off Johnson, but signing him pushed the Celtics precariously close to the luxury tax line. Nevertheless, the Celtics were ultimately too impressed with his performance to let him leave.
Johnson has played well for the Celtics since his call-up from Rio Grande Valley of the NBA Development League in January. Johnson, 23, has averaged 7.6 points in 21 minutes, including 40 percent shooting from three-point range.
Johnson played college basketball at the University of Dayton.

MY NOTE: Yeah! Nice job all-round Danny, Brad and especially Chris!

He's shown that he deserves an extended look.

Hi,
Also, he might be an inexpensive but valuable filler for a future trade.

Yes, there's more than one way to define "an asset" to the team.

The Celtics did the right thing. If they let this kid go......what type of message would have it sent to others in the same position.

Re: Celtics To Keep Chris Johnson
Nice to see great effort go rewarded. There's a certain category of player I've always referred to as a "Celtics type" of "Unsung Hero." I'm not even totally aware of my criteria. A non-star who digs and digs, never gives up, isn't afraid to step up when needed, has the talent and willingness to become a valued role player, but very unlikely to see his number retired. Probably not a starter, at least not until inheriting that role later in his career. Embodies the spirit of team first and subliminating self to help bring out the best in others. Does the little things—the underappreciated intangibles. Possibly more likely to impact defense more than offense.
I believe Larry Siegfried probably introduced me to the genre. I should go through all Celtics players over time and list others, but I'm too lazy. The most recent might have been Scal. Perhaps Posey before him. Lick Lobey (as the Cooz used to call him). Maybe Scott Wedman. I'm sure this board can identify others.
I'm not claiming Johnson belongs to what, for me, is this exalted list. Not yet. He's got a whole lot of provind to do. But I believe he has to goods to become an unsung hero in the game of pro basketball.
Go Chris!

Very good decision. This kid deserves being here the rest of the year .

If they sign him, it will be because he earned it. Then they should tack on an unguaranteed second year so that he can be used in a trade during the off-season or kept if it makes sense to the Celtics.

Gyso,
That's exactly what they did according to Forsberg (ESPN Boston) via his tweet.

According to source close to Chris Johnson, deal w/Celts is 3 yrs non-guaranteed after $322G for rest of this season.

MY NOTE: As I suspected, Danny has committed nothing more than chump change for this season and is free as a bird, if he wants to be, after this season but has CJ locked up for dirt cheap if he doesn't. Still, a HUGE break for CJ, getting his name and face out there in NBA arenas and in front of NBA GMs. Hell, even if it doesn't work out, having NBA experience will definitely help him get a nicer contract overseas.
Congratulations. You earned it.

Re: Celtics To Keep Chris Johnson
This is the latest I've seen on Johnson's contract.
Sam
The Boston Celtics got a little creative in the signing of Chris Johnson to a multi-year contract on Friday. While it's similar to a minimum deal, Boston actually inked Johnson to a four-year pact using part of what remains of the mid-level exception while signing him for the remainder of the season and three additional years. The breakdown of salary: 2013-14: $320K 2014-15: $915K 2015-16: $981K 2016-17: $1.1 million ESPN.com
