a quick rebuild?
Just read an article about how bad Cleveland is right now.
so my mind wonders a bit.....
trade #1:
Celtics send J. Green and Bogans expiring deal to Cleveland for Deng.
Ainge would need to resign him of course.
Trade #2:
Celtics trade Bass and our lower first this year to Houston for Asik.
Next years roster:
C-Asik
C- Fav
C/PF- Anthony
PF-Sully
PF- Olynyk
SF- Deng
SF- Wallace
SG- Bradley
SG- Johnson
PG- Rondo
PG- Pressey
and
a top 10 (maybe 5) draft pick.
Humphries $12M and Bayless $3M will cover Asik's $10M kicker and resigning Bradley.
Deng would have to agree to a deal with similar first year dollars as now ($14M I think).
that team would be over the luxury tax , I believe with the rookie............would they be a contender is the question.

Re: a quick rebuild?
Kdp,
Any post with "Asik" in it automatically gets my attention. But why would Houston now be willing to trade Asik for Bass and draft picks if they refused to do so a couple of months ago?

Sam
diminishing value on Asik
I am not sure we offered a first in next years draft (though it was rumoured to be later years).
Harder to see why Cleveland would do it , unless Deng lets them know he will NOT re-sign with them.
My mind sometimes wanders as I read articles...LOL.
I am still not sure that team is a contender, a playoff team yes.... a possible top 4 team in the East next year....yes.
Deng, Rondo and Asik woudl all be in prime years (28 and below)
Team would be up or over the Luxury cap next year and possible after (resigning Asik and Sully later would eat up all of Wallaces deal coming off the books in 2015).
team would still have a a lot of draft picks coming in.
but would they be good enough to compete for championships?

I'm fairly sure that Cleveland can't trade Deng.

Deng can be traded again at any time, as long as he is not traded with another player on his team.
99. When can't a player be traded? Can players be given "no-trade" clauses in their contracts?
In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances:
•For two months after receiving the player in trade, if the trade aggregates the player's salary with the salaries of other players. However, the team is free to trade the player immediately, either by himself or without aggregating his salary with other salaries. This restriction applies only to teams over the salary cap.

Re: a quick rebuild?
Kdp,
I'd love to see Asik and Deng on this team as long as we don't have to lose both Bass and Humphries, both of whom are tough rebounders at PF and can chip in at center occasionally. Asik, Sully, Deng, either Bass or Humphries, a drafted SF (with Wallace as a backup until they're rid of his contract one way or another), Bradley (with hopefully a taller sharpshooter backing him up), and Rondo (perhaps with Bayless or any of many possible other combo backups) would be my idea of a very good offensive and defensive core with which to get to another level. Whether they'd be championship material I don't know, but they'd be a great jumping-off point toward that end. That's the kind of team a guy like Johnson, with a little more development, might help as a swingman.
(The first time I typed that list, I forgot about Sully. If this post looks a little sloppy, it's because I immediately held my head under water for 10 minutes.

Re: a quick rebuild?
Kdp,
I don't think Deng and Asik will move the Celtics into Contenders territory.
I wouldn't argue they are an upgrade over JG + BB.

Re: a quick rebuild?
If you want to see what Deng looks like on a bad team vs a good one, look at his stats since joining the Cavs.
Suddenly the difference between him and Green doesnt look so drastic....at nearly 5 million more per year.
No thanks.

Re: a quick rebuild?
How much longer is Dengs contract? no way is he worth 14 million, his agent did a great job to get him that deal, for 28 he may already be on the downside.
