Beat,

Did you make this question just for me, considering Rick Barry is one of the guys in my (decidedly un-3D) avatar? Sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner and claim half of today's wondrous prize. Nice job, Gyso, especially for the extra credit part.

sorry

but on a side story. Back in March of 76 with my trusty press pass and a date with the other one we had in college (had to be about the best lookin girl in the school, and when I asked her about going to the game on press passes and she could talk to the players..........well need I say more, she couldn't go into the locker room however.

So we headed off on an icy night to the Aud in Buffalo to watch Golden State take on the Braves, I later found out she was a huge Rick Barry fan.

Was a close game till Barry went nuts and scored 23 himself in the 4th quarter. Think he had 40+ for the game and If the trey would have been around it would have been 3-4 more. Also made all the foul shots with that underhand shot of his.

After the game she requested to speak to Barry and he came out and OMG he actually was hitting on her...heck he was asking more questions than her or I.

On the way home it was icing on pretty bad and I had to stop multiple times to scrape off the windshield as the defroster couoldnt keep up in the old 66 Chevy impala. Got back to Geneseo and there was no power there either but that doesn't stop college kids from finding a way to party.

Best college date I ever had!!

Beat,

Great story. I can certainly believe the part about Barry hitting on your date. As with most pro athletes, I try to keep my opinion of him as an athlete separate from my opinion of him as a person. Athletes as a whole are certainly well known for having a "wayward eye" regarding women, and from what I understand, Barry was firmly in that camp. But he was an athletic hero from my youth, and since he hasn't (to my knowledge, anyway) shot anyone or sold drugs to kids, that's where he remains. The man could shoot with the best of them.
