Derek Fisher... $25M deal
Well, well... looks like Phil finally found his man.
A. Woj is typically pretty good so it's legit.

Sources: Derek Fisher finalizing $25 million deal to coach Knicks
By Adrian Wojnarowski
Derek Fisher is finalizing a five-year, $25 million agreement to become coach of the New York Knicks, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
After Knicks president Phil Jackson lost his top coaching candidate, Steve Kerr, to the Golden State Warriors, Fisher became Jackson’s primary target and the 18-year NBA veteran will retire to take the job.
Fisher, 39, had been seeking the same five-year commitment the Knicks had given Jackson to be president, sources told Yahoo Sports.
It is immediately unclear whether the fifth year is guaranteed or includes a team option. Fisher’s deal matches the five-year, $25 million agreement Kerr reached with Golden State, but is less of a commitment than what New York initially offered Kerr to become its coach.
Fisher’s coaching staff is expected to include Bill Cartwright and Kurt Rambis, sources told Yahoo Sports.
All share longtime coaching or playing experience with Jackson, and Fisher plans to run Jackson's famed triangle offense with the Knicks.
The Knicks' support system, centered on Jackson's mentorship role, is one of the most attractive features of the job to Fisher.
Fisher played parts of 13 seasons with the Lakers, winning five championships under Jackson.

Should be interesting...

Good for Fish. He's a good man. I wonder how he'll like the East Coast. I wish him good luck except, of course, when they play the Celtics.

I like Fish, too. He was the reason for the now flop fines, wasn't he?
He's going into that void known as the Knicks. Maybe Jackson is the answer, finally returning to his roots. As long as they stay out of the way of the Celtics, like you Sam, I wish them well. I still think the Knicks of the 70's and late 60's are unrecoverable. So far, so good.

Actually no, Wade. He is the biggest flop per around and still gets to the line.
This is one heck of a first quarter! Can they hold the lead. Leonard is shooting lights out.

Don't forget it could be argued that the very first NBA flopper was a Celtic. But, at that time, he was considered an innovator. For the most part, he didn't fake the hits but focused on actually getting in front of offensive players; and a lot of them were less agile than today's players and couldn't avoid him. Oh, by the way, his name was (and is) Frank Ramsey.

It's interesting that Kurt Rambis is listed as an expected assistant coach.
The Lakers have granted him permission to speak with the Knicks.
I thought Rambis had a good chance of being the Lakers next Head Coach.

TJ,
As you know I had hoped Rambis would be given that job, but the times they are a'changin' in Lakerland. I feel sorry for Rambis. All he has ever wanted was to be a Laker-for-life; as a player, as an assistant coach, he wanted Phil's job but went to Minny because that was where the job was and the front office was stiffing Phil's guys (Shaw too), came back as an assistant to Antoni (I can go back to leaving off the "D" in his name now that he's no longer associated with the Lakers now?) hoping he'd be Johnny-on-the-spot to pick up the pieces after Mike #2 was handed his hat and now this.
I hope, if he ends up with D-Fish, that he's happy. Ironically, his greatest strength as a player was that he was the perfect role player, happy to always be the smiling bridesmaid and not the bride, and that might be what's holding him back now.
We need more players, coaches and people like Kurt Rambis.

bob,
Maybe Kurt isn't built to be the leader that you need to be as a Head Coach.
You are right, he is great in the assistant roles, now and when he played.
Thanks for the fair and positive words about Rambis.

Perhaps the reports of Kurt Rambis' death in LA are a bit premature?
Lakers Focusing On Rambis, Gentry, Scott As Primary Head Coach Candidates
Jun 11, 2014 1:05 PM EDT
The Los Angeles Lakers have centered their head coaching search to Kurt Rambis, Alvin Gentry and Byron Scott, according to sources.
Rambis is a probable candidate to become an assistant coach with Derek Fisher and the New York Knicks if he doesn't get the job. Rambis is close with Phil Jackson and has a strong relationship with Fisher.
Rambis was previously head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Lionel Hollins would be a good hire for LA.

I'd vote for Kurt in LA. I always felt that he was the anti-Showtime guy on those teams—the lunchbucket guy. I have this recurring daydream that Kurt makes it into the Hall of Fame and Kevin McHale introduces him.
