Giddens Is A Keeper
Up to this point in time, I have been confused about the Celtics' handling of Giddens. I like his game. He is a stat sheet filler, much like Tony Allen. I believe he has more upside than Allen. His steals per minute is very good, as well as his rebounding. Defensively, his potential is off the charts. I have to believe he will be a better decision-maker offensively, as well.
I seem to be looked upon as a "wild oat" with some of my posts, but I truly feel comfortable with expanding his game and minutes. Giddens got 7 rebounds this evening in 19 minutes. He had a game earlier this season with more than 10 rebounds. He is somewhat raw offensively, but I love his attitude and athleticism. The Celtics need his energy and athleticism. Don't let Giddens get away. His style of play is needed on this team.
Go Celtics!

sd - Giddens high for rebounds in a game prior to tonight was 3 which he had on Oct. 28 and again on Dec. 30. What 10 rebound game are you talking about?

TA showed alot more in his rookie year than Giddens has in this his second season, nice to see TA turn it around, the guy can hound on D,have not seen one area where Giddens can hang his hat on yet.....I still like what I believe Walker can bring if he can just stay healthy.

In looking at Giddens vs. Walker, Bill is ALWAYS the one that impresses me more. He has more desire to play and work hard, has a tough minded attitude that doesn't allow him to take a back seat even as a young player, and he has strength and athletic ability that is just off the charts.
I think Walker is the one that needs more playing time to be honest.

To Mrkleen09: Walker's been in need of NBA, not D-league playing time for over a year now. If all our cap specialists come up with reasons why we can't go out and get someone proven, then give Walker a chance to prove himself. His athleticism speaks for itself. If you don't get game experience you'll never develop to your fullest capacity to be able to help the team. It's the same catch 22 when a young person's first starting out in the business world. He or she can't get hired due to lacking experience. If no one will give you a chance, how is the youngster supposed to get experience? Let Walker play with a unit of at least 2 or 3 other veteran players on the court with him. This will give him a greater comfort zone, and more feeling of freedom to be himself and function within a more structured framework. It's either give Walker minutes, or give Pierce last rites!-MD.

Walker can go over people in traffic,on the dunk last nite,Giddens couldn't do that, not spliting 2 defenders in their face.Walker also looks like he has the strength to develop a post up game,I'd take Walker over Giddens anyday.

MD - Pierce had 24 points in 28 minutes. I dont think he is in need of last rites.
I also understand that with a healthy TA and Daniels, there simply may not be many minutes left for Bill Walker as the season progresses. But I don’t agree that in the long run, he has NBA potential – and his growth as a player will be retarded if they don’t get him out there in meaningful spots from time to time in the near future.

Re: Giddens Is A Keeper
Both Giddens and Walker have tremendous potential but are a long way from "getting it". It would be wonderful to see them fast-breaking down the court someday with Rondo in the middle. They need to be brought along slowly. They need to learn skills, build confidence. There was a great line by Shooter, the Dennis Hopper character in the movie Hoosiers: "I like the way you're breakin' in the colts." If we can't say that about Doc's handling of Giddens and Walker by the end of the season, then I'll bitch and moan.
For the record, Bill Walker turned 22 last October. He played, if I counted right, a total of 36 college games. He has torn both ACLs and suffered some other knee injury around draft time. It isn't fair to expect him to be an NBA player overnight. Even Kobe couldn't pull that off.

Steve, as memory serves me, Giddens had 10 + rebounds in a game this year. Allen may have shown more in his 1st year, but I feel his improvement since has been disappointing. Check on Giddens rebounding and steals / minute.
I love his attitude and energy. I see a lot of potential in Giddens.

sd - Your memory is not serving you very well. And when you want to check something, just go to Yahoo Sports/NBA and a world of stats is at your fingertips. Giddens rebounding high for his career (before his 7 against N.J.) is 3, done twice. And, by the way, rebounding and steals per minute are worthless when acquired in garbage time or in less than 15-20 minutes a game. Any coach will tell you that. Giddens has so few minutes, his stats are meaningless.

Celtics would be crazy to loose Giddens & Walker. I see House gone with Ray kind of taking his spot as 3 pt specialist and share more time with Giddens. Walker just need to be playing, the kid can leap with an explosive move to the hoop which you don't find often.

Sorry Steve, it was a preseason game against the Nets: 13 rebounds in 33 minutes. I don't consider any time on the court in the NBA as being meaningless, however. I doubt if Rivers does, either.
