In Havlicek's case, the record was a testament to his long career and to the lack of complementary scorers on the Celtics during the 70s.

In Kobe's case, it's a testament to the fact that he sucks!

Even as a Celtic fan, I'm good with Kobe.  This is one of those stats that actually pays tribute to a great career.  Kind of like Babe Ruth holding the home run and strikeout records for a while.

I've read some talk that perhaps the Lakers should start talking with Kobe to see if he might be interested in getting traded.  Maybe let him wrap up his career somewhere competitive.  What do you think TJ?  First off, would he even want to go somewhere else?  Second, figureing a trade would be somewhere contending that needs a helping hand, who would take him?  I don't know what's left on his contract, but I would think the trade wouldn't have to involve anything more than what the bargaining agreement calls for at a minimum.

NYCelt,

For on the court reasons, I think LA should talk to Kobe to see if he wants them to look into a trade.
They can win 15-20 games, with or without Kobe.
He already seems very frustrated and they have only played 7 games.
There aren't that many players that can be traded to match up salaries. (Joe Johnson, Stoudemire, Bargnani (need other players), Eric Gordon, etc)

I wonder how much it would hurt the Lakers to trade Kobe and not have a superstar to market and to promote the Lakers brand.
I doubt it would be worth it to trade Kobe just to get a mid to late first round pick and another decent young player.

On the way in this am
heard this discussed a bit
In the NFL seems the top 20 all time QB's that have thrown the most picks are either in the HOF or will be except 1 and that is Ken Stabler.

Kobe missing the most shots all time is just a result of him playing a long time and taking a lot of shots.

Don't care for him but this has no bearing on that.

"Bryant, in his 19th NBA season, entered the game 13 misses shy of the record. The 36-year-old guard now stands ahead of Havlicek, Elvin Hayes (13,296), Karl Malone (12,682), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (12,470) and Michael Jordan (12,345)."

Not too shabby a list.

Havlicek missed a lot of shots because most (if not all) of his Celtics career was spend in a volume shooting offense.

I don't care about Kobe.

Kobe has been a great player for his entire career. I could care less about this record and really did not even know that such a stat was counted until hearing it this morning. I am sure that no decent Celtics fan ever thought that Havlicek was not all that he was even though he may have led the NBA in missed shots for over 30 years.

As far as Kobe getting traded this season, NYCelt, it may not matter if the Lakers have a superstar on their roster this year or not. Laker fans will still be Laker fans and will return to their usual obnoxious ways when their team starts to win again.
