ChatBox Feature

We have added a new feature called ChatBox. It is like the Instant Messenger (IM) or Chat Room from the old days. Messages are only visible to members who are logged in. This is in test mode, we would like your feedback on whether to keep it or not.

To Use Chat:

• Select ChatBox on the bottom left of your screen. (the first screen, not In a topic forum) A new window will open.

• In the upper right corner, select Log In. The font is difficult to read right now. gyso is looking into this. Update-Fixed thanks gyso!

• You will see your name on the left hand side of window, along with other members logged into ChatBox.

• Enter your message in the Message Box (bottom right) then hit return to post your message.

Note: You can leave this window open, and still view and post in the forum.

Give it a try and let us know.

Everyone really should try this!

Pete and gyso have got something here you won't find elsewhere.

No delay, live chat.  If you see a poster is logged in you can converse with them in real time.

This could be the next best thing to finding a rim-protecting, rebounding, scoring machine center!

Maybe better, because if we do, you can talk about it here...

I just tried it out, and it's really easy to use. It's similar to the chat feature in Lync, the online meeting application for Microsoft Outlook, in that you can see who is signed in and messages are shown automatically.

My question is whether it might be a better option for the game-on thread because you don't have to refresh the page to see new messages. Pete mentioned that there is an limit on the number of messages, but if there's a way to copy the messages or otherwise save them into a regular game-on thread, I think it's an option worth looking into.

If you look at my avatar, I am showing the game on thread, and a resized chatbox. It is hard to see, but the chatbox is on the right.

My thought is that the chatbox could be fun and quicker for game on, but for more in depth comments, post on the game on thread. This should help keep the "action" going as chatbox is quicker to see everyones comment.

Since the chatbox is a separate window, it is real easy to keep on either side of the game on. Worth a try anyway.
