The "kid" and his next summer job!!
Seeings how I can't get him to post this here goes.
Marcus is presently working for the Syracuse Women's Basketball team, last year it was water bottles, towels and clip boards. He didn't want that again and took up with the head of the video department and is now assisting in taping and editing games and practices. Editing them from the 40 minute game into about 5 minutes for viewing by the team. He also works with providing the team with scouting videos from upcoming opponents.
Now the head of this department, a few years back did an internship with the Indiana Pacers and told Marcus to contact someone he knew that worked there. So he did. He said things looked good. Originally he was told that no final decision would be made until into March, but last week he messaged me saying he got the job. So once school is out in mid May he will be heading to Indy and working for them thru the summer until mid August. His cousin Kyle is attending school out there and he will be staying with him. With this time frame he should be there for the end of their season and as far as they go beyond. If nothing else it will be quite an experience.
Hopefully this will open some doors down the road.
He planned on heading home this evening, as he's done with classes till after Thanksgiving......but I, his mother, and MOTHER Nature (snow and lots of it) think he best stay put till the lake effect dies off hopefully later tomorrow.
I'll try to get him on board to discuss what he does cause it is quite fascinating how a 40 minute game can be condensed to 5 minutes of meaningful action.
He's a pretty happy camper.

Congratulations to Marcus! This is how Eric Spoelstra started out, and it seems to have worked out pretty well for him.
I guess you have a new Pacer fan in the family.

Beat, that is great news. He is a real gogetter, which will only lead to bigger and better things.
Glad he was not on the road when the storm hit!

Re: The "kid" and his next summer job!!
This is from his Facebook page from a few minutes ago....
I received word this week that I have been offered a paid internship position over the summer with the Indiana Pacers. I would be working with their NBA Draft preparation team along with their Basketball Operations department under Celtics legend Larry Bird. I haven't accepted the offer yet, but working in the NBA is a dream of mine.

Beat,
Wow! What a great opportunity! He hasn't accepted yet? What happened? Did he sprain his finger trying to hit the 'yes' button?
Team Marcus, Vietnam Chapter

Re: The "kid" and his next summer job!!
You know this made me think of my college years when I thought my job as a cab driver was pretty good as I could study when not on a run and the money was pretty good.
But darn one year hanging with the Woman's basketball team....... And the next year interning with Larry Bird...... Marcus it doesn't get much better than that!

Ingenuity is often what it's all about. Marcus obviously earned this opportunity, and it should be the thrill of a lifetime for him. Nice going, Marcus. Knock 'em dead!

His future is so bright, he's gotta wear shades!!
I study sports science
I love my classes
I got a crazy teacher, he wears dark glasses
Things are going great, and they're only getting better
I'm doing all right, getting good grades
The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades
I've got a job waiting for my graduation
Fifty thou a year -- buys a lot of beer
Things are going great, and they're only getting better
I'm doing all right, getting good grades
The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades
Well I'm heavenly blessed and worldly wise
I'm a video editing techie with x-ray eyes

Don't want to shortchange my other young one, but Sarah starts her new position as an assistant manager at the AT&T store next month, December 1. Sizable raise and better hours too.
