Re: So Long Rondo
so all three players Ainge got could be traded by the trade deadline this year.
this team might be completely different after the trade deadline.

Re: So Long Rondo
So long was just a matter of time. Celtics get nothing really nothing in this deal. Another long season is for sure now. Playoffs this year? Not. The rest of the season may have more players packing and another summer of hoping the next season will be better. We as Celtic fans can only hope from season to season.

have you been watching the games this year?
they don't even pretend to have Rondo in the games late, he had already checked out of here.
Glad we've moved on, best thing for the team.
Glad Rondo is going to a team with a shot , it should revive him some.
I WISH Ainge could have gotten more, but you can only get what someone offers.

Re: So Long Rondo
It must be that the team was fairly certain he wasn't coming back.
It could be the Mavs were willing to part with what they did, which wasn't all that much, to make a run at it this year while Dirk still had enough left in the tank. They were probably among the few teams that the gamble made sense for.
I still haven't seen anything to follow what they reported on Green also being shopped on ESPN last night, but I wouldn't be surprised. If you're going to start from scratch, he might bring some value in exchange.
It strikes me we now have enough draft picks to assemble a team that's too young to drink in the bar after a game.
Too bad; I really enjoyed watching Rondo.

Re: So Long Rondo
Time to thank Rondo for his long service to the team. For being part of their only championship in decades. For providing lots of offensive thrills for fans. For withstanding the interminable trade rumors. For being my favorite Celtic since he arrived. All the luck in the world to you, Rajon. We've just established relations with Cuba, and you're about to establish a relationship with Cuban.
Happy trails!

Somehow, a rim-shot needed to follow this one.

THIS SAY'S IT ALL!
FAN REACTION - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dk-a1RAX2mU
It was revenge for breaking a television and cursing at Doc.....and staying for his birthday party in LA rather than travel with the team and a lot of other things. There was nothing we could do about it. Danny was a made man and Rondo was just a player, we had to sit still and take it, it's among Italians it was real North End greaseball.............. Even traded Rondo right before Christmas............. in front of all the fans..........so his family and teammates could not even celebrate Christmas at Rondo's home...................................

Re: So Long Rondo
Good luck to Rondo in Dallas.
I won't be hypocritical. I was in favor of trading him - have been for a long time. He was one of the most exciting/maddening players I have ever seen, but I just don't think he was a good fit for the direction the team is going in. I hope he wins another championship in Dallas - that is until we're ready to make our run in a few years (I hope - going on 75 I don't know how many seasons I have left to enjoy).

I feel lousy that this is what it had to come down to. I wanted him to succeed this year and shut all the people up who had ripped him for so long.
2008 seems like a lifetime ago. I suppose Jeff is gone next, that will kill me.
But. I AM A CELTIC. Life goes on in Celtic Land
Rosalie
Good luck Rondo, it was a hell of a ride

Re: So Long Rondo
Right now, somewhere, all alone in a dark closed room, Phil Pressey is grinning from ear-to-ear.
If Danny doesn't have another trick up his sleeve to turn this into a center I will be disappointed in him.
If they are Dallas' picks they're not going to be that good.
Jameer Nelson must be dying inside. He escaped Bradley by leaving Atlantic Division rival Orlando for WC Dallas and now he has to go up against Bradley (and Smart!) in practice every day.
Brandon Wright. A downgrade from Jeff Green, in my opinion. We are now as overloaded, numerically but not quality-wise, in SFs as we were with PFs last year. My gut says that Green is gone too, now that we have Wright. A downgrade I say, but acceptable if it nets us a center.
Danny is going to be able to fill out an entire roster just with his draft picks. With the salary cap expected to rise significantly in a year, will teams be more inclined to shed high salary stars for low cost picks, or less?
In Danny I Trust, he has earned the benefit of the doubt, but he's making me nervous.
Rosalie nailed it, as usual. Loyalty is to the team first.

Re: So Long Rondo
Bob,
Wright is not a small forward.
He is a very long and athletic center.
He has some game. I didn't realize he is already 27.

Good luck to him.
He was a special player and has an opportunity to win now while still in his prime.
Not particularly thrilled about what they got in return.

Hi Rosalie,
I hadn't seen you post for a while. I was wondering...
Leaving Chiang Mai today for a 3-day Mahout training course. It'll be my turn to disappear for a few days now. Helluva timing, what with this breaking news.

Re: So Long Rondo
I went to the movies this evening, the 4:45 show. I come out after it ended and turned on my phone. My son-in-law sent me a text saying Rondo was traded and sending me his condolences.
The movie title: Gone Girl
Little did I know it would lead to Gone Rondo.
I'm not impressed with the trade. How many 1st round picks do we need?
Danny, tanks a lot!!

Re: So Long Rondo
It may take several years before this trade can be properly evaluated.
We still did not add a 5 and have downgraded the PG position.
This has gone from needing a piece or two to a full blown rebuild.

Re: So Long Rondo
The Mavs were a team needing a piece of two, the Celtics (even with Rondo) were much further away than that.
Nelson is a good veteran to mentor Smart.
Crowder is a good athlete who can spell Jeff Green and play some D. He adds a lot of hustle to the team.
Wright, not sure what to make of him. He is a free agent at the end of the year, so maybe another chip to move in the spring...not sure.
If Rondo wasnt staying, these 3 plus two picks is a decent deal. But in the world of what does it take to attract a marquis free agent, the Celtics just took a step back.
In DA I trust (for now at least)

Re: So Long Rondo
Rondo did quite well going to the Mavs. I think he is going to thrive the rest of the year there.
Thanks for some pretty darn good years here.
