Re: Celtics Salary and Trade Exceptions and more!!
Thanks for the Link Gyso.
so by their numbers we have 10 players under contract at about $41.4M.
since I think the mario brother will be bought out soon, that leaves only Crowder and his $1.18M tender offer as a RFA befroe the draft.
one mid first rounder and one late first will cost us about $3M in first year salary's.
so then we are at about $45.6M
The cap next year is expected to be around $66M from everything I've read so far.
Looks like the holds (besides RFA's) are Bass at $10M and Jerebko at $8.5M. so obvioulsy if Danny wants get that $20M in cap sapce he'll need to renounce their rights. Of Course he could just sign them both quickly to lower deals as well, but that would eat up cap space IF he is going to go after a big dog in UFA this off-season.
to get the cap space Ainge also will lose his TPE's I believe.
is that about it or am I missing some piece here, Gyso?

Re: Celtics Salary and Trade Exceptions and more!!
kdp,
I thought that you'd like this site. It seems to be updated quickly, unlike the other two I used in the past.
Guaranteed Total for next season: $40,406,846 for 9 players. 2 QOs, 3 FA's and 1 non-guaranteed. 15 total.
Jonas Jerebko won't be waived, due to our injury issues.
Luigi Datome may be waived to keep an open roster spot so Danny can have flexibility to sign someone. Be it another team's waived player, a 10 day temp, a player from the European or Chinese leagues, whatever. These type of players can be given a 2-year non-guaranteed contract that carries over to next summer for trading purposes. Danny likes to have these kind of contracts each year.
If Datome is waived, there is one of the QOs. The other QO to Crowder gets made. Good value for not much $$$.
Bass, Jerebko and Randolph are free agents next summer. How Danny deals with them depends on Sully's prognosis.
Non-guaranteed Pressey may be the odd man out for next year.
We have a boatload of tiny TPEs. Out of the 8 smallest ones, only two are greater than $1.3M. I don't know how Danny could use the 6 really tiny ones. The two biggest ones he will want to hold onto, IMO.
We have two 1st round and one 2nd round picks. Does Danny trade any of these to move up? Time will tell.
How this all adds up, I cannot say for sure. IMO, we are one year too soon to set our aim on a max player. Wallace's contract is the reason I say that. Once that is gone, all bets are off.

Re: Celtics Salary and Trade Exceptions and more!!
yes I meant Luigi (the Mario brother) would probably be gone by then.
you know I have been a proponent of Ainge getting down to be able to use real cap space this off-season. So obviously I feel Ainge will let those TPE's go. but as you say time will tell.
I think we're likely to end up with THREE seconds in this years draft.
Philly's and Washington's I believe , though I think there are hoops to get thru by the end of the year.
Seconds don't really matter for cap purposes , as they are non- guaranteed I thought .
I do have to admit, that Danny has done a damn good job to have us where we are so quickly after the tear down.

Re: Celtics Salary and Trade Exceptions and more!!
Danny used the TPE from the trade that got LeBron to Cleveland to get Zeller and Thornton. Thornton was just traded for Thomas. So the TPE. in the end, turned out to be Thomas and Zeller. The deal went down because Danny traded Bogans to Cleveland for a few players, clearing Cleveland's salary cap so they could sign LeBron. We cut all the players we got except for Dwight Powell and got the TPE for the difference in salaries. Not bad.
It was noted on greenstreet.weei.com that Danny has been very efficient in the use of TPEs. I don't know about efficient (if he was efficient it wouldn't have required another trade to finish it) but he has been effective.
