Nets are a pathetic team. They mailed it in early and often.

Make that Indy loss. They are 1 game behind us in the loss column but we own the tiebreaker.

And the kid and I have playoff ticket in hand for game #4 !!
Sad news is depending on the schedule we might have a major conflict with the date.... but the value of those seats if it's Bron might be able to double our money if not more !!

I think Indiana and Miami could look really good next year with the pick we could have had, which could be 10 or 11 or top 3, imagine Heat with Towns or Okafor added to Whiteside and Bosh? IF that happens who else is gonna puke with me?

cow,
How would Indy or Miami get Okafor or Towns with the even the top 3 pick? Aren't they going 1 and 2?

cow,
The #11 team less of a chance of getting a top 3 than we have of winning #18. And if you want either of those guys you probably have to be top 2, not 3, and that makes it even harder.
Remember Perk going down in the 2010 Finals? If LeBron twists a knee...injuries are part of the game and happen all the time and you cannot predict which ones, to whom or when.
100% of the teams that do not make the playoff do not win a championship. 100%.
It is possible for Danny to trade for either of those players, or others. Won't be cheap, won't be easy, isn't likely, but it is not mathematically impossible.
If you don't make the playoffs, you have ZERO chance at a championship.

Re: Celtics Clinch Playoff spot
bob theres a 4% chance of us getting a top 3 unprotected pick, I like those odds better than us going all the way or even deep into the playoffs. As you know the biggest losers usually don't get the top pick, its usually the luck of the balls that get non playoff teams without the worst record a top pick, once the top 3 picks are given out by the luck of the balls, then the seeding is by records of the remaining teams. You might not have confidence in Dannys drafting ability and I don't blame you, but I'd rather have a shot at top 3 and then settle for the 10th pick as playoff appearances with a flawed team do nothing for me. This is a golden opportunity to strengthen the team in a deep draft, I don't care about Charlotte and 76ers futility, other teams will still strengthen themselves.
By the way Rodney Hood seems to be coming on strong recently, has a 3 point shot and can get to the rim, unless James Young shows something Danny might have picked the wrong left hander again.

I really don't care about hypothetical speculations.
We're in the playoffs, which I've been predicting for weeks (check out the game on threads if you don't believe me) and that's all I care about.
Go Celtics!

Re: Celtics Clinch Playoff spot
For a team that was "not a playoff team," the Celtics seem to have a playoff look about them, don't they?
Just before leaving TD Garden on Sunday, I took a nice long look at the rows of banners. And somehow it seemed, at least for those few proud moments, that all was as it should have been in the world. And now I know that was a portent, not just a hope.
Go Celtics! Then, now and always. And, in particular, thank you, Danny and Brad. Not bad for an early year in the rebuilding process.

Re: Celtics Clinch Playoff spot
Congratulations. Regardless of the state of the Eastern conference, given all the roster upheaval, making the playoffs is quite an achievement. They'll end up within sniffing distance of .500, and they've been playing better than .500 ball for some time. I hope they acquit themselves well in the playoffs.

Re: Celtics Clinch Playoff spot
We made it. Worth every struggle early this season.
I know lots of pundits say many of out players could not even start for other teams.......... perhaps so, but those guys are not wearing green, and that to me makes all the difference.
Might not even win a playoff game. Not even thinking about a series but we are playing and will have an extended season.
As for the draft, I'll worry about that in a few weeks right now I'm loving this !!

Re: Celtics Clinch Playoff spot
There are many players over the years who "experts" say would never have been on their roster that wore a green uniform. Many who were discarded near the end of their career who came here and helped win a title or two. So, I really do not care what anyone has to say about the guys on our team, they played like true "Celtics" and showed us they learned a little about Celtic pride. Stevens has alot to do with this, he never gave up, during those losing streaks, big losses and all
We are truly lucky to have him here.
Go Celtics!

Re: Celtics Clinch Playoff spot
total championships won by the #3 pick in the draft:
J. Embiid- ZERO
O. Porter- ZERO ( 3 playoff games)
B. Beal- ZERO (11 playoff games)
E. Kanter- ZERO (4 playoff games)
D. Favors- ZERO (4 playoff games)
J. Harden- ZERO (55 playoff games)
OJ Mayo- ZERO ( 20 playoff games)
A. Horford- ZERO (48 playoff games)
A. Morrison- ZERO (2 playoff games)
D. Williams- ZERO (63 playoff games)
that's TEN years of #3 picks in the draft. ZERO championship rings.
the average games played by those 10 players was 57 and the average minutes this year was a whopping 1680.
I'll take the playoffs myself.

Re: Celtics Clinch Playoff spot
I think Cowens deserves credit for being consistent and standing up for what he believes is best for the Celtics long term, which is one more year in the lottery and a chance at a much better player then they will draft at #15 or #16.
I honestly think that Danny was not trying very hard to make the playoffs by trading away Rondo and Green, who on paper were much better than the assets Boston acquired.
I do think Boston has over achieved this season. There are other teams that have also over achieved.
There are benefits to making the playoffs and benefits of being in the lottery.
I bet there were many Celtics fans early in the year who felt like Cowens does, but then they switched how they viewed this season as Boston kept looking like a playoff contender.
Brad has done a great job this season. The players have definitely responded and played with a lot of fire and energy.

Adam Morrison won two championships with the Lakers, in 2009 and 2010.
James Harden very well could have won a championship with OKC if they hadn't traded him to Houston. He might be the league MVP this season.
The young guys like Embiid, Porter, Beal, Kanter, etc haven't been there yet, but when you are drafted by a rebuilding team, you need to give them more than 3 years before talking about their lack of championships.

Hi,
Congratulations to Celtics!
I think it's a big achievement and, regardless of the number of playoffs games, whether it's 4 or 16, it'll be invaluable experience.

Re: Celtics Clinch Playoff spot
I read somewhere that the Celtics have the THIRD best record in the east since the trades.
that's not a losing team, folks.
trust your eyes.
will we beat the Cavs?
not likely as they are the BEST team in the east since the all-star break.
bad luck for us.
if we were playing Toronto in the first round, this thread would be about whether we can beat them in the series.
and the draft argument is NOT about having the #16 pick or the #3 pick. it's about having the #16 pick of the #14 pick.
since the 2010 draft ( five years) the teams with the #13 and #14 picks have moved up exactly ONE spot total in five years due to the lottery.
Hope is one thing, reality is something else.
