The rivalry between the Celtics and Lakers has seen plenty of big moments. On Friday, the teams were involved in a battle of ping pong ballsfor the 27th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The Lakers won. The Celtics will pick 28th.
The longtime foes ended up facing off in the tiebreaker scenarios due to previous transactions with the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets, respectively. The Western Conference teams finished the 2014-2015 regular season with the same record (56-26). The tie meant a 50/50 tiebreaker at NBA headquarters in New York was needed to determine which team would own the 27th pick. The Lakers own the Rockets’ first-round pick this season as part of the Jeremy Lin trade. The Celtics possess the Clippers’ first round pick as compensation for allowing Doc Rivers to go to Los Angeles.
The Celtics now own the 16th and 28th picks in the first round of the draft, as well as a pair of second round picks: 33rd overall (acquired from Philadelphia) and 45th overall (their own choice).
Oh...my...god! Couldn't the Celtics have done something to advance themselves to the 27th pick? Lose another game or two? Forfeit Brad's Coach of the Month award? After all, advancing from 28th to 27th on the crap pile can make the difference between a 2-year rebuild and a 10-year rebuild.
If I'm missing in action for a while, it'll be because I've gone to Lourdes in desperate hope for relief from my depression over this catastrophic development.

Boston will pick 28th.
The Lakers got the better of the Celtics in a coin flip.

More evidence to not trust pingpong balls. Jazz fans had to suffer through the same season as Pacer fans, but come up with a worse opportunity for the lottery.
Pacers win tiebreaker with Jazz for better lottery odds

Associated Press
NEW YORK -- The Indiana Pacers have won a tiebreaker with the Utah Jazz, giving them slightly better odds at winning the draft lottery.
Both teams finished with 38-44 records. The Pacers have a 0.8 percent chance at the top pick, and the Jazz have a 0.7 percent chance.
Three other ties were broken Friday, all among teams who made the playoffs.
Dallas (50-32) beat Chicago for the No. 21 spot.
Memphis (55-27) beat San Antonio at No. 25.
Houston (56-26) beat the Los Angeles Clippers at No. 27 -- although neither team is keeping the pick. The Rockets' goes to the Lakers, while the Boston Celtics get the Clippers'.
The lottery will be held May 19 to set the top 14 selections. The remainder of the first round is determined by records.
