Rumor: Marcus Thornton To Sign With Sidney Kings
of the Australian Basketball League. Good on ya, mate!
Sportando reported it today. It's not final, but it wouldn't be surprising.
A little seasoning, a couple of fresh shrimp on the barbie and a chance for Danny to keep moving the pieces around.
The Kings' schedule, last year, ran from 10/11/14 - 2/22/15. It would appear they only play one game a week. Definitely weekend warriors. February is still before the deadline for signing players for the playoffs. He could play in Australia, come back and get more reps in with the Red Claws and maybe even play with the team next year (not likely, but logistically possible).
Good luck, Marcus. Come back hungry.

Good move by this kid. He will make more money than he would have in the D League, and may make it back to the States as an improved player. Perhaps his decision will get him a chance in the NBA.

It's official. It's a one-year contract with the Sidney Kings. The level of competition isn't that great there, the Australian NBL's "star" is Josh Childress, but they're trying to attract more talent, especially from the US. No language barrier, for one thing, as long as you don't get stretched out like a lizard drinking, mate.
It's a short season so he could, and probably will, be back for some Red Claws time too.

The Celtics should join in a partnership with a team over there. That way, we could stash our overflow of 2nd rounders there and have some say in their development.
