Interesting. I love numbers and mathematical modelling. FiveThirtyEight is pretty thorough and well thought out. Their models are largely based on historical performances. Totally reasonable, and no better approach is currently possible. However, as we all know, predicting sports is a bit like predicting the weather or the stock market - although previous performance is a good indicator, it cannot really predict future performance.

After clicking around, I ended up on an article about Carmelo Anthony's value. I won't get into that, except to quote the following:

NBA teams win championships by getting players at discounts.

Other than GSW (Steph's contract) and SA, who has more players on discount contracts than the Celtics???
