Isaiah Thomas Ruled Out for Remainder of Playoffs

BOSTON (May 20, 2017) – The Boston Celtics today announced that Isaiah Thomas will miss the remainder of this year’s postseason following re-aggravation of a right femoral-acetabular impingement with labral tear during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Cleveland. Thomas initially injured the hip during the third quarter of the Celtics’ March 15 game against Minnesota, forcing him to miss the next two regular season contests. The injury was further aggravated during Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at Washington on May 12.

“Isaiah has worked tirelessly to manage this injury since it first occurred,” said Celtics Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian McKeon. “The swelling increased during the first two games against Cleveland, and in order to avoid more significant long-term damage to his hip, we could no longer allow him to continue.”

Thomas did not travel with the team to Cleveland and is currently evaluating treatment options. A further update will be provided as soon as one is available.

Good, why take a chance and injure him further. This is the smartest thing they could do and, if they did it, he obviously is hurting. According to the reports, he did not travel with the team to Cleveland.

Oh, this is going to be ugly. Hey, San Antonio dealing with the same thing, lose your lead player against these teams and you are done. At least San Antonio put up a fight. Somehow I don't see that happening, but time will tell. I hope I am wrong for their sake, it will be a long summer for them thinking about this.

we can only hope----------they do have it in them to fight, they have done it all year. time now to show the world how big their hearts are.

IT playing the rest of this series probably wasn't going to make a difference for Boston.
I know he gets foul calls by jumping into the defender, but him hitting the court so many times a game could be taking a toll on his body.
He had a great year.
Too bad for IT it had to end this way.

Some offensive players jump into the defender.
The difference between IT and Kobe and others is that IT ends up on the court way more often than other players do. He's probably hitting the court 5-10 times again.
That's probably not good for his body.

If I remember correctly Rosalie, you cheered when Rondo got hurt.
I don't cheer when any player gets hurt.

My comment about Rondo's injury was about his showboating like he was a superstar. Isn't that the same guy who was talked about being waived after the trade deadline. I never said I was hoping he got hurt I was commenting on his sportsmanship. Was I sorry he was out, sure. I do not root for players to get injured. You are picking a fight with the wrong person TJ.

Hopefully he doesn't delay on treatment so that he can come back as good as new next year.

I hope Rozier starts in his place and I'd start Brown too. Brad should shake it up big time and shock the world.

My money says Smart starts.  Not a scorer, to say the least, but a good ball distributor and we are still a catch-and-shoot team which means someone has to deliver the mail, and Smart is better at that than Rozier.

Probably right Bob, I just don't see Rozier starting this game. Brown will get a ton of minutes if he stays out of foul trouble. Actually he got those four fouls and then did a really good job . He was the hardest worker on the team

Now we'll see how bad the Celtics are without IT.

Celts had a hard time scoring when IT was around.

I doubt the Celts will come close to beating the Cavs.
The score will not even be close.

No doubt Smart will probably start but I'm not as impressed with his pg skill set ast you are Bob. For me, Smart's skills are best used off the bench in specific situations. He's a combo guard who can't shoot. I'd like to see Rozier get a chance to show what he can do. This could be his last chance to do so barring a trade. All of our guards are going to have to deal with next years upgrade.

What is most important is how the team shows up and deals with the loss of their star player. This could easily be a steal game. Remember, with the Celtics, the playoff series doesn't start until the away team loses. lol
