Who Won The Trade?
Who Won The Trade?
Short, simple. The question of "Are The Celtics a better team as a result of the trade?" is answerable in this poll with an explanation of your vote.
You can cancel your vote if you reconsider and want to change it later. You cannot vote for multiple answers, you must pick 'Other' and explain what and why.

Re: Who Won The Trade?
I picked other.
We do not really know who won the trade. Kyrie has not played a single game for Boston and the 2018 Nets pick is still undetermined. If that pick is top 3 then Cleveland probably won the trade on paper.
Boston however did not have to win this trade because their rebuild has not been dependent on one trade or one free agent signing or drafting one player. In my opinion this trade must be viewed in the context of what Boston is trying to accomplish. Adding more talent and securing banner #18.
I also think it is very relevant that Ainge did not put all of his chips on the table. If he had no chips left this would have been a very risky gamble.

Re: Who Won The Trade?
Celts won this trade by far.
My favorite non-Celtic player was Kyrie Irving.
Ever since that Uncle Drew commercial came out, I've been a fan of Kyrie.
This is one of those rare opportunities where your favorite non-Celtic becomes a Celtic.
Kyrie's a proven winner.
Just look at Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals.

Re: Who Won The Trade?
Hi,
I voted "Other". I think that both teams won in their own way.
As many pointed out, it'll require years to objectively rate this trade. For now, my position:
Cavs a) got rid of disgruntled star, b) acquired more or less comparable PG, c) acquired a very good defender (best after LJ on their roster) and, d) received a very high pick.
Celtics a) acquired a very talented and young offensive player, b) eased their cap situation for the next year, c) got rid of a redundant player thus giving opportunity for developing of young prospects and, d) got rid of a real possibility of injury of their leading scorer.
AK

Re: Who Won The Trade?
I voted other for Celtics win but it depends. I think a lot of it hinges on the "cracked egg" That crack is an improved Nets team that could surprise. They were close last year to winning more and they are going to be much improved and could easily pick 10-14. Still lottery but the odds are much less. That coupled with IT's injury scenario could make the C's win by far but we really have to wait until next draft to even begin to get a glimmer.

I voted other - so many ifs involved - I need time (perhaps Years) to offer up an opinion that is not pure speculation on my part.

Re: Who Won The Trade?
While it was a "fair" trade, the Celtics won the trade by far. If both IT and LeBron leave after this year, we are the prohibitive favorites to win the East. Odds are pretty good on that one, IMO.
Even in the short term. IT is NOT Kyrie, and will soon realize this is LeBrons' team. With his contract up in the air, IT may pout and complain about not making the All-Star team. I loved IT, I really did, but it seems he very concerned about his contract, and this would have been a distraction all year. Same with AB. We have three people to replace Crowder. I'm a little concerned Zizic will turn into Jokic, or the Nets will suck again. Other than those things we cannot control, the Celtics got the best player in the draft, in his prime, with two years left on his deal. We won the trade in both short and long term.

We most certainly don't know about the long term without seeing what the Nets 2018 pick turns into.red16russ11 wrote:While it was a "fair" trade, the Celtics won the trade by far. Re: Who Won The Trade?
Right now, both teams got what they wanted, so in that way is was a fair trade for both teams.
As a fan, I look at three things that will swing it either way in the future:
How will Zizic turn out after a couple years in the NBA?
How will the Nets pick turn out in a couple years?
Will Kyrie resign with the Celtics in three years?
Since the final tally is years away, I pick "Other".

Re: Who Won The Trade?
GYSO is it two years or three years for Kylie? I thought the third year was a player option which means after two he is unrestricted? But we could offer him more than any other team?

Re: Who Won The Trade?
I voted the Cavs won big. The difference between Kyrie and IT isn't worth Jae and Zizic and the Golden Egg. This is especially true considering Cleveland was the team under pressure to do something, not Danny. Furthermore, there is growing evidence of damage to Boston's reputation with players, who believe Danny done IT wrong after his emotional performance in the playoffs.

It's only fair for the Celts to give up something of value because the Celts are getting a legit NBA superstar who's still 25 years old and is under contract for the next 2 seasons.
There's also very little chance the 2018 Nets pick is going be #1 again next year.
And in a very weak eastern conference, the Nets will most likely fall outside the top 5 of the lottery next year.

Two, correct, yes.
I could have worded it better. I should have said, Would Kyrie resign after two years. NOT in three years (or in the third year). I was in a hurry.

Why would Kyrie leave Boston?
It's not like Boston is a city like Clevleland.

Re: Who Won The Trade?
There's now talk of the Cavs backing out of the trade because of IT's hip.
I think it's very clear the original trade of IT, Jae, Zizic, and the 2018 Brooklyn pick for Kyrie favors the Celts, by far!
Now the Cavs want more!
I say NO MORE!!!

He's a flat-earther. He wants to leave a serious contending team. He considers NY Knicks to be a possible landing spot.
Something in his head is broken. Who can possibly guess what he would do in the future?
