Basketball Insiders Published 1 day ago on April 17, 2018 By Basketball Insiders
According to Basketball Insiders’ cap guru Eric Pincus, the NBA sent a salary cap update memo to its teams, advising that current 2019 salary cap projections remain on course for a $101 million salary cap for the upcoming season.

In a memo to teams, the NBA has NOT changed it's preseason salary cap projection, it remains at $101 mil for 2018-19 and 108 mil for 2019-20. Tax at $123 mil and $131 mil, respectively. Typically, there's variance in the pre/post projection but not this year

Additionally, the players project to have earned $20 million more than their share of basketball related income. The NBA will recoup that $ from escrow (the 10% that's withheld all year from player checks)

The NBA projects that the players overage for 2018-19 to be $45 mil (which would again be recouped by the league via escrow)

The final salary cap amount gets locked in after both the NBA and the Players Association complete their season-ending audits. The results of those audits and the final accounting on the NBA Playoffs can impact the projected salary cap values.

MY NOTE: And, because they were wrong, it cost us Avery Bradley. Yeah, I know Morris has worked out well and it has given Jaylen his shot to advance but still, you have to be cautious.
The 2016-2017 salary cap was $99M.

In retrospect the Celtics do not miss Avery and Morris has more than met expectations.
At this point the cap has little practical impact because Boston will not be a player in the primary FA market. They will have the full mle this summer to sign a fa.

They are going to have to get into the 'tax' to become serious contenders.

Unfortunately, I think that is always going to be the case.

Smaller incremental increases for the foreseeable future. Still should help us retain what we have.

There has to be a point where these huge salaries are going to come to a roaring halt. Some of the money paid to players is beyond ridiculous. Where does it stop? Kyrie will get his money but by that time Al's big contract will be over and, hopefully he will agree to a smaller contract.
I have to wonder what kind of an offer Marcus will get, it will be an interesting off season as some decisions made this year will affect next year.
