Next Board Get Together 2019

This may be a good place to collect PM's and our ongoing discussion about the next board get together, sometime in 2019

Extra thanks for keeping on top of this, since my mind has wandered into other places (nothing new there!).

I'm including gyso (Steve) and Pete in my response to you and Rich (112288), since they are the other co-chief-operating-yahoos of the board along with me.

I'll paste your original note below, but I'm thinking looking ahead to a November 2019 time, in Boston, might have advantages. I think that would give us sufficient time to hopefully find a good Friday/Saturday/Sunday date that might be easier for those that need to travel. It would also give us a good shot at holding tickets in a decent seating section. November weather, especially earlier in the month, might also be more favorable to travel. My guess is those traveling from outside the area might stay at places like Long Wharf or around Faneuil Hall. Dinner... or post game. Something between the hotels or close to TD? Would rely on your opinion. Also, in addition, I can be talked into The Fours, Sullivans, or something similar for at least a beer at some point. I believe gyso is tracking a bet where I may owe people a beer!

A conference call at some point would be good. My office system will only handle three lines; can anyone best that?

Adding Rich here to see if we can rekindle this conversation around a board meet up.

@Dean - from your point of view, can you tell me what you think might make the most sense?

a) A meet up at a restaurant in Boston to watch a playoff game?
b) A meet up at a restaurant in NYC to watch a playoff game?
c) A meet up and tickets to a Celtics game in March / April?
d) Starting now to look at next year - and a November 2019 game with tickets and dinner in Boston?

Maybe a conference call with the 3 of us makes more sense?

So far, Paul (MrKleen) and Dean (NYCelt) leaning toward November. Some thought being given to looking into a suite, which might be a pricier, but nice option, having the board members together in a private setting.

I'd go for the suite idea (pun intended), but we should also make sure that price isn't a barrier to attendance for some.

It wouldn't hurt to try and negotiate a deal. I think we would get a pretty good head count. I don't recall the total number for the game a few years back. I think we were over 20 for dinner, and had to be around 14 for the game.

Sounds like two for November.

I don't know if I can tweak a thread to have unique permissions.  I would have to make another Forum and move this thread (same name as the proposed forum) to it.  I'll get 'er dun when I get home, later this week.

The November date will mean it is next season?  That means that a playoff date this season is out?

You can count me in for November.  We won't see the schedule for next season until early October, at the earliest.  That will give us a month (plus or minus) to set a date, if there is a rare Saturday night game in November.

If there isn't a Saturday night game, we'll have to figure out what else to do that night.

As far as the conference call goes, I can do it anytime from this Wednesday through Sunday. I plan to drive home this Tuesday and I am on the road again next Monday. Other than those dates, it will have to be in the evening.

It would eliminate a playoff game, but I think the playoffs, although fun, present a planning problem. We would have to be awfully close to the mark in order to pick the date, and tickets become a premium item.

True, it will be some time until we see the new schedule. I'm guessing something Friday - Sunday makes sense, and with a pretty social group like we have, we could come up with plans for a Saturday. I'm sure more than a few on this board would chime in, confidently, with "yeah, sure, World Series game!"

I'm pretty adaptable as everyone comes in with preferred call times, and an evening is OK too. For me, until late March, Monday and Thursday are a little challenging in the evening due to batting practice and bullpen sessions. Those nights would need to be later, like 9pm or so (Eastern). If we use Rich's conference system, he'll be the key time-wise.

I created the forum. I added mrkleen09 to the permissions, it took a while to figure it out. I think Pete added Outside to another forum in the past, I just had to walk his backtrail to see how it was done.

I took CarlBraun, BenSwain and Steve Kuberski out for a test drive.  Carl could see it because he is set up as a Moderator.  Ben (activated Member) and Steve K (activated, not a Member) could not see it, so I think we are good to go.

How do we get the league to schedule a Saturday home game in early November?

November works. It is a great time of year especially the fall colors and crisp air!

I would suggest we air this to everyone so people have time to contemplate the idea of coming to Boston, arrange their Fall schedule accordingly and prepare to come the 1st or second week in November. Monday November 11, 2019 is Veterans Day. All schools are off and most companies are closed. This would give everyone a 3 day weekend in Boston.

My suggestion are for people to book reservations NOW because of the tourist crush with the fall color season. They can cancel if there is no game that weekend without recourse or be able to switch to another weekend if they are on the books.

My wife and I always stay at the Marriott Courtyard in Natick, Ma. right off of the Mass Pike (I90) exit #13. Very close to down town Boston and the North End and easy to get to anywhere.

I know a great place that we could book a dinner or brunch in Sudbury, Ma near Concord Ma. The place is Historic Inn and restaurant ( circa 1716) called Long Fellow's Wayside Inn. Yes, thee Longfellow who drank and wrote poetry at the inn's bar. There is also an historic grist mill next door to explore as well.

All,

I am currently in Ohio.  I drive home tomorrow (Friday).  I hope to get home before the rush hour.  That leaves me available to talk Friday evening and any time Saturday.

Then I'm off to Alabama on Sunday for a week and a half.  I can talk anytime during that time in the evenings after 7:00 PM.

The following Sunday (Sept. 1) I am off to Sacramento until the 14th.  The time difference probably kills any chance for me to participate on the call unless it is during the weekend in between.

We'll work something out.
