Report: Rockets believe they have a trade partner for Clint Capela, could it be the C's?
NBC SPORTS BOSTON By Jacob Camenker June 28, 2019 2:58 PM
The Houston Rockets are in the process of trying to reshape their roster after losing to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Semifinals. And it appears that they have zeroed in on a potential target for their team in Jimmy Butler.
Getting Butler on the squad will be no easy task, as the team will likely have to trade away a few players on big contracts to open up cap space to get him. And that would include center Clint Capela.
However, according to Mark Stein of The New York Times, the Rockets believe that they have found a trade partner for Capela, but their willingness to deal him hinges on whether or not they can get Butler.
Of course, the question for Boston Celtics fans becomes, are the Celtics possibly the team in question? The Celtics had reportedly expressed an interest in Capela earlier in the offseason, and the team has a big need at center. So, a trade for Capela could make sense.
With the Celtics rumored to be the frontrunners to sign Kemba Walker, that could make it more difficult for them to acquire Capela. The Celtics would have limited cap space if they do, in fact, sign Walker, and they couldn't offload salary to the Rockets, who would need the salary cap space to add Butler. So, the Celtics may not be the team in question here.
Given their previous interest, it's possible that the Celtics could be among the teams that are interested in trading for Capela. But any bid to acquire him would likely be secondary to signing Walker and it's unclear if they could create the space to get him and Walker without further shaking up their core.

The ball is in Philly's court. They have to make a decision on resigning Butler, letting him walk or trading him so that they can at least get back some value for what they spent to get him.
Houston has the hots for Butler and see him as the third piece to join with Harden and Paul.
GSW are likely to be a lame duck this year so why not go all in to see if that grouping can push you past everyone?
I am sure they must have thought about this before they traded for Butler and then traded for Tobias. I do not think they ever intended to keep both of them.
Things are setting up for the Sixers to move Butler who is 3 years older than Harris and remains injury prone.
If Butler wants to play in Houston, Philly needs to pull the trigger. None of this however can happen without the yet to be named mystery team that can take on the $16 million for Capela.
Speculation has been running rampant that Boston is in fact the 3rd team needed to make this trade work.
I think Capela would be a terrific player for Boston. What I do not like about this is the likelihood that Smart would have to be included in the trade. Smart on the rival Sixers could become a real nemesis for the Celtics.
This off season is looking more and more like a major rebuild. The Celtics have to replace their starting PG and center. The cost to do this will be high unless Danny targets lower valued players. But Danny is aiming high. Capela is a top 10 center in scoring (8th), rebounding (5th) and Block shots (10th) Walker is 4th in scoring among PG but only 13th in assists and 16th in rebounds. Walker is the top PG in scoring available but he is not a 1:1 replacement for Irving.
Teams have already targeted who they want and will be ready to secure those players as soon as the FA gold rush begins.
Boston remains several players away from putting together a complete roster even after filling their starting needs at the 1 and 5. The 4 rookies drafted may be thrown in the fire early and often.

Celtics don't have much momentum in landing Clint Capela via some sort of trade (for example, as the third team in a Philly-Houston deal). League source on whether Celtics are close: "No." Are they still trying? "No."

Good. Only way to do it was either an extremely complicated series of sign & trades or trading players that I want on the Cs. Better to pick up someone via the room exception.
