The Celtics reportedly have hired a new head coach for their G-League affiliate.

Darren Erman, a former C's assistant coach, will be the next Maine Red Claws head coach according to The Athletic. Erman was part of Doc Rivers' coaching staff in Boston in 2008. He eventually joined Mark Jackson's staff on the Warriors in 2013 before being fired and re-joining the C's for the 2014-15 season.

For the last four years, Erman had served as an assistant coach on the Pelicans staff.

Erman will take over for Brandon Bailey, who was promoted to the Celtics' staff earlier this month.

The C's announced a deal to purchase the Red Claws on Thursday.

MY NOTE: If you are a bubble player and you want a shot at the NBA what better place to do that than with a G-League team that is 100% owned by the NBA franchise and whose head coach was an assistant coach for the current Celtics head coach, and knows his entire playbook by heart? Excellent vertical integration strategy by Wyc and Pags. The G-League is like a baseball farm system, and the Celtics have now just taken that up a notch by making the Red Claws THEIR farm club. One could argue that "if they're so good why are they G-Leaguers?" Players get injured and need to get reps in before they come back to the Celtics. Some players are projects (e.g. Robert Williams) or need some confidence (e.g. Avery Bradley) and, because they're not getting the minutes in Boston, need to get them elsewhere. Because the Red Claws are owned by the Celtics those players won't just be getting minutes, they'll be running/learning exactly, precisely what Brad would be wanting them to do.
