Sam, Doc's too good a coach to lose control of the emotional direction of this team. Not to worry.

About Delonte, he's more than adequate as a replacement for Tony Allen. We gained a lot picking up Delonte.

I have a lot of confidence in Doc. But, since the camp in Rome, his approach to veterans has been rather laissez-faire. That usually works; but particularly strong-willed players can subvert it—sometimes ever so subtly.

I believe that happened last year when Sheed adopted the policy of putting out selectively. While I would never accuse the team of quitting, I think it was easier for them to develop an aura of futility when the losses started piling up despite their continuing efforts; and I feel that was, in large part, a trickle-down effect from Sheed's ever-present personality. Contrast that with the inspiration provided by KG when he was healthy enough to back it up; and there's quite a difference.

I hope it doesn't happen with Shaq. But there's no denying that he has a powerful and magnetic influence.
