Massive ESPN Cuts To Be Finalized Within Weeks.


Widespread cuts at ESPN which would likely affect ESPN Radio will be finalized within the next four to six weeks. The New York Post reports that there will be “no sacred cows” and that positions from on-air talent to top-tier executives are being scrutinized by CEO Bob Iger, who said in February that the company would eliminate 7,000 positions at the network.
The Post says that ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro is asking department heads to make their divisions as efficient as possible.

This comes as the cable TV side of ESPN has inked big money deals with Troy Aikman ($18 million annually), Joe Buck ($15 million), and Stephen A. Smith ($12 million). The company is also reportedly trying to lure Pat McAfee from FanDuel to be part of the ESPN roster.
The most vulnerable on-air talent would be those that make near or more than seven figures and are not considered “needle movers,” the Post says. Big money anchors such as SportsCenter anchor Scott Van Pelt and the Monday Night Football broadcast team are considered safe from the massive cuts ahead.
