Malcolm Brogdon has been named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year, the first Celtics player to win it since Bill Walton on the iconic 1986 championship team.

Well deserved.  Not surprised.  He was a true 6th man.

Brogdon with 60 1st place points, Quickley with 34, Portis with 6. There was talk of Quickley had the inside position but, in the end, it really wasn't close.

An exercise in numerology:
Bill won the 6th man award in 1986, the Celtics won the title. Malcolm wins it this year, 37 years later. Dennis Johnson wore #3, “Tiny” Archibald wore #7. Both were Guards who many thought best days were behind them, much like the Pacers saw Malcolm. Put their uniform numbers together and you have 37. The same amount of time between the two awards. Bill wore #5, a number that was ultimately retired in honor of Kevin Garnett. Who was integral in KG coming to Boston? Kevin McHale, what number did McHale wear…32. What does 32+5=37. The same number of years since our last 6th man of the year winner. Who was the most famous 6th man in league history and the man the award is named for, John Havlicek, his number…17. Who btw also talked Red into signing a former Ohio St. teammate of his, who incidentally also played the role of 6th man off and on, Larry Siegfried, who wore #20. What is the sum of 17&20, if you guessed 37 you are right. So, since we all know that numbers don’t lie (except when they do) it is all but guaranteed that our beloved Celtics will be hanging championship banner #18. Still not convinced? 18 titles. The two men who started it all are honored with retired numbers 1 and 2. 18X2=36+1=37. I rest my case!
