Cavaliers Preparing Max Contract Offer Sheet For Gordon Hayward
Jul 02, 2014 1:09 PM EDT
The Cleveland Cavaliers are meeting with Gordon Hayward and are reportedly preparing a max contract offer sheet.
Hayward is a restricted free agent, which gives the Utah Jazz the ability to match any offer.

MY NOTE: Wow. If that's true then that is absolutely stunning not just because he's not worth it, quite frankly, but because they just drafted Wiggins. Huh? Well, the good news here is that, if this happens, the Jazz will be in the market for a SF to replace Hayward. How about Bass and Green for Favors and Gobert? The NBA Trade Machine is currently unavailable, but that would be $14.07M coming from Utah to Boston vs $16.15M coming from Boston to Utah. Yeah, I know it's somewhat slanted towards Boston but not as much as one would initially think. Green is a legit SF with enormous potential (frustratingly delivered, but there) and Bass is a solid PF. Favors is a very good PF, true, but Gobert is still a marginal NBA player despite his size. It will still take years for him to grow into his body, he's a toothpick, and who knows whether he'll ever develop the skills? Right now all he has going for him, truly, is his size.

Cleveland"s GM is both lucky and an idiot. Lucky to win 3 orf the last 4 NBA lotteries. An idiot for drafting Bennett #1 and now offering a MAX to Hayward. OTOH, Hayward does have a great looking mom.

They just drafted Wiggins who *will* be better than Hayward in the long run so this doesn't make a lot of sense... unless they want Wiggins at the SG slot so they can trade Waiters.

Hi,
My co-worker, Cavs die-hard fan, said that it's most probably a hoax.

I don't know about the wisdom of trading one power forward (Bass) for another one (Favors) and a marginal NBA player. Despite the talent of Favors, it seems barely better than treading water.
