David Lee paid for him and his Golden State Warriors teammates to party in Las Vegas.

The Golden State Warriors have been enjoying the spoils of their NBA Championship this summer. One of the celebrations was a trip to Las Vegas for the players to party.

The team didn’t all pay for themselves and decide to go as a collective group, Warriors’ David Lee paid for everyone to party in Sin City.

AND he even paid for each player to bring a couple of other guests along as well.

From GQ Australia:

Andrew Bogut: We won on a Tuesday night. There was nothing on in Cleveland…we partied at a steakhouse until 5am. It was a Morton’s, which is a chain restaurant over there. A few days later, after the parade back in Oakland, we took a 3 o’clock charter flight to Vegas. Players only.

Neat. Who footed the bill?

AB: David Lee. He was nice to do that. We could bring plus two or three – I had a couple of Aussie mates tag along. It was the craziest party you’ll ever see.

Hopefully his Warriors teammates stepped up and footed the bills for what had to be some astronomical bar tabs while partying in Las Vegas.

When the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 2011, they racked up a bar tab of $156,679.74 at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. The Miami Heat similarly ran up a bar tab north of $100,000 celebrating their NBA championship.

And those were in a single night, much less what we presume to have been a multiple night trip to Las Vegas.

What makes this story an even bigger bummer, is that David Lee isn’t with the Warriors anymore after being traded to the Boston Celtics in the offseason. This Vegas trip might have been his last parting gift to his Warriors teammates.

He knew he wasn't going to be with the Warriors this season. Everything I've heard is that he's a great teammate, and not just because of footing the bill for the Vegas trip. I don't doubt that it was his parting gift to the team. He was the highest paid player on the Warriors, so I think he can handle it.

I'm looking forward to the Warriors presenting his championship ring to him. I assume they'll do that December 11 in Boston, or do they wait until the game at Golden State? That's not until April 1, so the December date seems like the much better option.

outside,

On one hand it'd be nice to give it to him in Oakland so the GSW fans can send some love his way. From my perspective as a Celtic fan, I'd rather have them give it to him in Boston. Make his teammates and the crowd hungry. Either way is good. He deserves it. He played well when his number was called, never bitched about his reduced role until after the season was over and played his heart and ass off for those years where they had a good team but, just like OKC last year, the WC was so good 50 wins still didn't earn you a playoff slot.

I'm not a fan of "he kills us everytime he plays us, so let's trade for him". Just because he killed us, and David Lee killed us everytime he played us in both NY and GSW, that doesn't mean he'll kill anybody else when he is in green and playing in our system. Having said that, I'm glad we have David Lee. He could be our new locker room leader. He is the only player on our team that has ever been an all-star, much less reached the top of the pyramid and earn a ring. You cannot buy that experience (owners can, but not players).

While I came to appreciate Gerald Wallace and his professionalism David Lee is definitely an upgrade. Lee can play, long minutes if necessary, while Wallace really can't anymore.

Lee wanted out of GSW because he wanted more minutes, he wanted his bigger role back. It will be interesting to see how Brad employs him.
