It wasn't the worst season in Knicks history that has Derek Fisher on the clock. It is the most regrettable weekend of his short coaching career that did the trick.

Imagine if Carmelo Anthony, after the fifth day of training camp, informed his superiors that he would be traveling to Los Angeles to visit his child only to end up at the home of the estranged wife of a current NBA player that results in a physical altercation with the player. And on top of that, misses the very next practice.

We would all question, rightfully so, Carmelo's commitment and common sense.


But this is much worse than a player getting himself into an awkward and embarrassing mess for himself and the organization. The head coach of the Knicks shouldn't be missing a practice in training camp. Whether he should even be cavorting with the estranged wife of Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes is another story.

Barnes, a former Knick, is a renowned hot head who should be suspended for reportedly driving from the Grizzlies training camp in Santa Barbara to assault Fisher. Barnes has a long rap sheet. Mostly altercations with opposing players. And he's good for at least three menacing threats, via social or mainstream media, per season.


Last year, Barnes was fined for a nasty exchange with Suns owner Robert Sarver. During the Clippers-Rockets series Barnes was fined by the league for shouting profanities at James Harden's mother. Very sweet indeed.

Fisher knows all about Barnes. They were teammates for two seasons with the Lakers. That's probably where Fisher first met Barnes' wife, Gloria, who made a name for herself on the reality TV show "Basketball Wives,"a distasteful program that makes NBA officials cringe.

Fisher is not know as a confrontational person. This is all tabloid stuff.

Barnes drove to his estranged wife's house to confront them. So, that is an affirmative action by Barnes.

However, Fisher is a coach and is and should be expected to hold himself to a higher level of conduct and screwing an active player's wife, ex or not, is not very classy.

And if Fisher blew off a practice with the Knicks to be in LA for that rendezvous, then that's pretty bad.

Derek Fisher has been dating Barnes soon to be ex-wife for months.
He's not allowed to hang out at his girlfriends house with a group of people and have a bonfire? Fisher did nothing wrong.

Sources said Fisher was at the LA home of Gloria Govan — Barnes' estranged wife, who stars on “Basketball Wives LA” — on Saturday. Fisher and Govan have been dating for “a few months,” a source said.

"Derek was in Gloria's back yard with about 10 people having a bonfire on Saturday,” said a source.

If Fisher lied to the Knicks, then he did something wrong.

Barnes is a punk who should be locked up before he kills someone. He is another potential OJ in the making. He is a volatile and he needs a good beating and put in the hospital. Careful Matt....there are always dive by shootings that happen.

Fisher is just plain stupid! I think Kirt Rambis gets the Knick's job!
