Re: Okafor on youtube
Okafor is certainly not a bad player in any way. He has some limitations, but he is still only a second year player. He has many strengths as well and if he is a coachable kid Coach Stevens and his staff will further develop his game and his successes. His outside shooting is most likely to never be good enough for his team to want him to shoot threes, but he will improve his range to about 15 feet.
Because of his shooting range limitation he may not fit easily into a space and pace offense, but he may still be good enough to have because a coach as good as Stevens can make adaptations for any quality player.
He is on his original rookie scale contract so he is not overly expensive for at least the next three years, but what you have to give up for him is what will make him desirous or not. I think that Ainge is smart in waiting to see how healthy Embiid is during the preseason. The healthier Embiid is the less likely that the 'ers will be able to extract as much from the Cs for Okafor.
By waiting (and hoping) to see if Embiid is actually healthy enough to play, the Cs could possibly get Okafor for some draft picks that are not the picks from the Nets. Right now I am not trading either Bradley or Smart for Okafor.

swish,
Thanks for putting this little video potpourri together.
Drummond vs Okafor. Okafor with more range. Baseline and frito line. Still not seeing any defense from Okafor.
Cousins vs Okafor. No shot by Okafor was from outside the restricted area. None. Not many pnrs, mostly clean up work. Cousins hit 2 from mid-range and had some nice pnr buckets too.
One of my problems with Okafor is highlighted by the fact there are very few defensive highlights. We all know he can score down low, and that's nice, but he isn't a rebounder and he isn't a rim protector.
Money issues aside, I'd still take any of the other players first. I'd take Boogie, Drummond or Whiteside.

You make some excellent points. Already has an excellent game offensively in the paint. The fact that he's so inexpensive over the next 3 years is a huge plus since it frees up considerably more money for free agency signings. I would use one of the Nets 1st round picks to land him. I can't think of any reason why a talented low post player can't coexist in a league that now relies heavily on the 3 point shot - the only difference between now and the 80's is that the medium range 2 point shot has been replaced by the longer range 3 point shot. The 3 point shot has not replaced the inside game - its replaced the medium range jump shot.

At an average of about 5 mil per year over the next 3 years I would grab this 20 year old kid in a mini second and worry later about addressing other issues that may exist.

That's a good way of thinking about it - the 3 replacing the medium 2 point range shot.

And here are the numbers to back up my statement.
Percentage of shots taken from various distances.
Year (2000-01) ,,, 0-3' = .273 ,,, 3-10' =.168,,,10-16' = .158,,,16<3 =.232,,,3p = .170
Year (2015-16) ,,, 0-3' = .293 ,,, 3-10' =.158 ,,,10-16' = .103,,,16<3 = .162,,,3p = .285
