BUCKS ACQUIRE SPENCER HAWES AND ROY HIBBERT FROM CHARLOTTE
Milwaukee trades Miles Plumlee to the Hornets and requests waivers on Steve Novak
Posted: Feb 02, 2017
Milwaukee Bucks General Manager John Hammond announced today that the team has acquired forward/center Spencer Hawes and center Roy Hibbert from the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for center Miles Plumlee. In a related transaction, the Bucks have requested waivers on forward Steve Novak.
"Spencer and Roy are two proven NBA centers who give us additional depth and versatility in the front court," said Hammond. "The trade also gives us future cap flexibility as we continue to shape our roster. Miles and Steve are true professionals both on and off the court, and we wish them all the best.”
Hawes, 28, has appeared in 35 games (one start) for the Hornets this season with averages of 7.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Hawes also spent the 2014-15 season with Charlotte and has split time with the Clippers, Cavaliers, 76ers and Kings during his 10-year NBA career. The No. 10 overall pick by Sacramento in the 2007 NBA Draft, Hawes has career averages of 8.8 points, 5.8 boards and 1.9 assists in 665 games (368 starts).
Hibbert, 30, has posted averages of 5.2 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 54.2 percent from the field in 42 games (13 starts) with Charlotte in 2016-17. Originally drafted by Toronto with the 17th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, and traded to Indiana on draft night, Hibbert played his first seven NBA seasons with the Pacers and then spent the 2015-16 season with the Lakers before joining the Hornets. Hibbert owns career averages of 10.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 assists in 656 games (586 starts) over nine seasons. He is a two-time NBA All-Star (2012, 2014) and was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive Second Team following the 2013-14 season.
Plumlee, 28, has averaged 2.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 32 games (12 starts) with Milwaukee this season. Drafted in the first round by Indiana in 2012 (26th overall), Plumlee was acquired by the Bucks in Feb. 2015 as part of a three-team trade with the Sixers and Suns. In 260 career NBA games (133 starts), Plumlee has averaged 5.2 points and 4.8 rebounds on 52.9 percent shooting from the field.
Novak, 33, has played in eight games with the Bucks this season. He was acquired by Milwaukee on Feb. 22, 2016 and played in three games in 2015-16 before suffering a sprained medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee and missing the remainder of the season. He has appeared in 467 career NBA games (six starts), averaging 4.7 points and 1.3 rebounds while shooting 43.0 percent from 3-point range in 11 seasons with Houston, L.A. Clippers, Dallas, San Antonio, New York, Toronto, Utah, Oklahoma City and Milwaukee. Novak was drafted by Houston with the 32nd overall pick of the 2006 NBA Draft.

MY NOTE: Doesn't say much for Monroe and Henson, now does it? We know they would LOVE to unload Monroe. I say "no" to that, but Danny will do what Danny will do. Monroe for Amir and Young works, per the Trade Machine. They get a big to replace Monroe and both incoming players are on expiring contracts. Taking on Monroe's contract would make it hard for Danny to swing for the fences this summer, so he might not want to do this deal, but it works. Of course, if the free agent market doesn't get him who he wants this summer he could do a sign-and-trade with Amir and fill-in-the-blank for Monroe then.
I agree with Charles Barkley, Milwaukee is the biggest disappointment this season. They should be MUCH better than they are, and I don't see where a softy like Hawes and an immovable object like Hibbert will help them. Funny, just a few years ago Roy Hibbert was considered a key player to fill the center slot. Now he's a dinosaur being passed around the league like a party girl.
If we waive James Young, would any of you be interested in Steve Novak if he is available after he clears waivers?

Re: BUCKS ACQUIRE SPENCER HAWES AND ROY HIBBERT FROM CHARLOTTE
I really don't see why a team that has been disappointing through 50 games would even think of trading for two more guys who pretty much only play center after neither did much for Charlotte for 50 games. They didn't get fleeced because they did not give up much, but I would say that Plumlee has at least a little bit more potential than either of Hawes or Hibbert.
They must have some plans to move Monroe, as Bob mentioned, because there is no room for 4 guys who play the same position on one 15 man roster.
Bob, Not sure if Novak is any where near healthy or anything about his contract, but he is still better than the used bag of practice balls that I have mentioned many other times as acceptable in trade for Mr. Young.

This was a salary dump by Milwaukee since they didn't have minutes to give to Plumblee and he is owed $37.5m after this season.
Charlotte is receiving the most talent (Plumblee) but is also doing so at a cost.
Hibbert and Hawes are basically done as viable NBA players.
This seems to be a good trade for both teams for what they are looking to accomplish.

Clyde,
Novak is 33 years old and has only played 22 minutes this season, total. I know that Kidd is going young, but I don't know if there are other reasons why Novak hasn't played. The only reports of injury is from last year, none this year.
He's 6'10", 225# and has a career 43% 3pt fg% (and we know how much Brad loves that!), but he has only played a grand total of 263 minutes in 2+ seasons (2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-present) and that's with 3 teams (Utah, OKC and Milwaukee) so there is something going on. He must just be done.

right on point.
Plumlee plays little and they resigned him to solid BU money. Hibbert can play the same level at less than half the price with no future obligations.
I don't think Plumlee is that good a player (he is NOT his brother at Portland) and now has an oversized contract on his shoulders.
Hawes can be used in todays NBA as an 3 pt shooting big, as long as he is a BU and comes cheap. I think he'll play for a for mores years to be honest. He is a poor mans Kelly O!!!!!!..........

Yea that would be a great pick. He has only played a total of 18 games over the past 3 years so he must have fresh legs, he's a animal on the glass and can make 3 point shots and despite the fact that he is 33 he still could help us off the bench.

I remember when they drafted Kiminski and then signed Hawes. I was thinking...that was stupid
