Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics rookie, displaying 'mean-spirited' post game in starting lineup

Jaylen Brown has thrown a bit of a wrench into the Boston Celtics' plans (in a good way) with his performance in the starting unit recently, adding an element to the Celtics' starting lineup by attacking the rim aggressively.
Brown's insistence on getting into the paint and forcing the issue alongside Boston's starters -- whether that lineup includes Amir Johnson or Jonas Jerebko at power forward -- could complicate matters for the Celtics when Avery Bradley returns from his Achilles' injury. To be sure, it's a complication Brad Stevens is happy to have, but Brown's performance demands minutes, and minutes (particularly at the wing) are at a bit of a premium.
Brown's performance hasn't gone unnoticed around the league. In his column today, ESPN NBA writer Zach Lowe noted how well units that include Jae Crowder, Brown and Jerebko have performed, and why Brown's game works with them.
Boston is a whopping plus-32 in the 85 minutes these guys have shared the floor, per NBA.com. Brown looks shockingly comfortable as a starter -- a violent slasher with a mean-spirited, butt-first post game to deploy against smaller defenders. He is playing with more control than he showed during a wild first few months. Crowder is quietly shooting almost 42 percent from deep, and Jerebko makes the right play every time.
"Mean-spirited" is actually a pretty great way of describing Brown's post-game. Watch here as he finds his spot and then bullies J.J. Redick with a lightning-quick spin move to get an easy layup through contact.

I am not glad that Avery Bradley has been out for a month, but the silver lining has been that Jaylen Brown has gotten lots of Bradley's minutes. And, with these minutes Brown has shown that he will continue to improve more and more.
Brown is also a keeper unless there is a first level and young star type player coming back in a trade.

Wide,
I would go as far as to say that Brown, and Smart, are in the process of making Bradley expendable.
Bradley's probably not worth what he was early this season in trade, but could help bring back a decent player for depth, or maybe a younger player needing minutes in order to develop.

I hate to say it, but was thinking the same thing myself nycelt, and I love AB's game and grit. Browns size and versatility as the starter at the 2 is getting great results despite the obvious learning curve that he is going thru, but hes the other teams match up problem, because he can do so many things, driving, scoring, rebounding, defense and he doesn't even really know what hes doing yet, but his versatile defense covering 2's plus all positions 1-4 during any given play is great for a team with a very small PG and not the largest or physical group of 4-5's.

I've come to the same conclusion on Brown versus Bradley and I think Avery's right achilles is the same one that hampered him two years ago - in other words, a recurring problem. IMO, there will never be a better time to part company than now. Hawk

Brown can develop into a two position player but he has a ways to go before he is a lock. He is still a very poor shooter.
I do not think that he makes AB expendable yet. The Celts have played well with AB out because the team has collectively played better. AB's future is however a question mark because of his nagging injury history and his pending extension that may come into play this summer. If DA keeps the 2017 Draft pick and uses it for a guard it is unlikely that both IT and AB will be offered an extension this summer.
Expanding on this theme... Does IT get Conley money? How much to extend AB? DA has until next February to trade them so the decision is not immediately critical.

With respect to injuries AB has played in 86% of regular season games excluding his rookie year and considering that he comes back after the Allstar game and plays the rest of the season.
Compare that Jimmy Butler. exclude the rookie year and he plays the remainder of this regular season he has played in 87% of games.

If you are shipping Bradley out, you need to bring in a shooter as Smart and Brown are not at Bradley's shooting level yet.
