Re: The dancing beAR is coming to 'merica
That's the way I read it gyso. He's rehabbing the ankle at the C's practice facility and will probably make a trip down east soon.
He will be a fan fave for sure Shamrock. With that smile and accent and fluent English, fans are going to love this kid.
Don't worry too much about the smile, Bob, from what I saw of those highlights he may not be a junk yard dog but he will not be viewed as another soft Euro. He is a tough young man.
I'm sure that he was paid enough in China that he won't need the D-league check except to pass it on as a tip someplace. lol
He will be outplayed at the start, that is inevitable. Taller players may shoot over him but no one is going to be able to run through him. He is 6'8" and somewhere between 260 and 280 with 6% body fat. Think how we will react the first time someone charges into him and then bounces off while still having to take the offensive foul. lol
Got to admit, I am really getting pumped up. Jaylen and Guerschon will be fan faves because of their personalities and their play. I haven't seen too many interviews with Ante but I have a suspicion that he is going to be really liked for his in the paint, lunch box style of play. We love those physical guys who are willing to get down and dirty. If our pick is Ball, he is another serious, down to earth player and he is not much like his Dad personality wise. He will fit right in. I haven't seen much of our other possibilities so can't speak to them. But all in all, we will be adding players who will be fun to watch as they carry us on to our next string of banners. With the ways these guys articulate, those interviews are going to be a real pleasure to listen to.

Celtics first-round pick Guerschon Yabusele joins Red Claws
Yabusele, who played basketball in China this winter, has obtained a work visa allowing him to play with Maine.
Guerschon Yabusele, a 2016 first-round draft pick of the Boston Celtics, has secured a work visa and will join the Maine Red Claws for their final two games of the NBA Development League regular season and into any playoffs.
Scott Morrison, head coach of the Red Claws, confirmed Wednesday morning that Yabusele will practice with the team today in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Maine (28-19) has lost three straight on the heels of a four-game winning streak. The next Delaware loss or Maine victory would give the Red Claws a third consecutive Atlantic Division title.
A 21-year-old forward/center, Yabusele averaged 20.9 points and 9.4 rebounds in 43 games with the Shanghai Sharks in China this season. Drafted 16th overall, he played Summer League basketball with the Celtics alongside Abdel Nader, Demetrius Jackson and Jordan Mickey, all of them regulars in recent lineups for the Red Claws.
Born in France from parents originally from the Congo, Yabusele watched the Claws play last Thursday and Sunday at the Portland Expo. He said he picked up English through basketball as well as listening to music and CDs.
While playing for the Celtics this summer, Yabusele picked up a nickname from Celtics assistant coach Micah Shrewsberry.
“He thought I was moving pretty fast for my weight,” Yabusele said. “So he called me The Dancing Bear.”
Yabusele visited the American embassy in Ottawa Monday in order to expedite his paperwork.

Brad Stevens: D-League stint a 'great opportunity' for Boston Celtics draft pick Guerschon Yabusele

BOSTON -- Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens believes a late-season D-League stint should be a "great opportunity" for Guerschon Yabusele.
Yabusele is expected to make his D-League debut Friday night for the Maine Red Claws. The big man should have two regular-season games with the Red Claws plus the playoffs if the team makes it (Maine's magic number is currently one).
"I think it's a great opportunity for him," Stevens said Wednesday night before hosting the Milwaukee Bucks. "It's more for him to get a chance to be around (Red Claws coach) Scott (Morrison) and his staff, be with (Celtics players) Demetrius (Jackson) and Jordan (Mickey), continue to pick up the NBA system stuff on both sides of the ball. This is totally for him, it's not an evaluation thing for us."
After the Celtics made him the 16th overall pick in June's draft, Yabusele spent one season in the Chinese Basketball Association. He received plenty of game reps there, but the Red Claws experience should more closely mirror what he would see in an NBA game. Boston's D-League affiliate runs a similar system to the Celtics'.
When asked whether the Celtics want to see anything in particular from Yabusele, Stevens replied, "Not really."
"I mean, compete at a high level and pick up things as well as you can," Stevens continued. "But it's so late (in the D-League season). We know what Guerschon can do."
bob
MY NOTE: Ok, so 2 games, minimum, in Maine (A Magic Number of 1 makes it a good chance they will make the D-League playoffs). Not a lot, but something. A chance to hang with Jackson and Mickey and soak up some knowledge from them, and to learn Brad's system.
Btw, this picture really helps you to realize just how tall Commissioner Adam Silver is. Yabby is 6-8" or so and he's only a couple of inches taller than the Commish. Silver has to be 6'5", maybe 6'6".

Once again we are going to try and get a handle on Guerschon's game while he is playing without real practice and with no plays designed for him. Can he hit a three? Will he block a shot? Will he even get on the floor? Can he play anything resembling NBA D? Can he help Maine advance so that we can see more? Which makes me wonder if any player has ever played a full season overseas and then signed a D-league contract?

He plays strong, hard, fast and is a good shooter. Mixes it up down low. Grabs rebounds. Not intimidated by anyone. Not afraid of tussling for the ball and rolling atop the hardwood. What's not to like?

"her mic skills are off the charts" was meant to be in code for something else
happily married though, except for since moving to GA she's tured into a hawks/falcons fan and 6 months after we got married she turned vegan. everything else is pretty good.

Re: The dancing beAR is coming to 'merica
i just decided to dig deeper for more intel and according to Wikipedia he only started playing basketball in 2012???? wow.
also nice to see, even before that, he trained as a boxer. This is a guy who WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED. 6'8 260 lbs, and still learning the nuances of the game. I'm liking him, a whole lot.

Matty,
Maybe you should point that out to her and remind her that Celtic leprechauns are magically delicious.

Here we go again with those same old Yabusele highlights LOL His game doesn't change no matter what the competition. His production seems to remain constant. Really too bad we can't sign him until after July 1 because he will be a difference maker.

Body wise reminds me a lot of Sully (the slimmer version....... if there was one)
hopefully he doesn't eat himself out of the league.

beat,
I see it, but Yabby's feet are SO much faster than Sully's. Yabby can actually run AND he can change direction with a crossover as well as with a spin. Sully could do a spin move and finish but not a spin move and keep the dribble alive and not a Euro-step.
Still, guys that size need to eat a lot to maintain that muscle and bulk and that turns into fat if one is not careful. Sadly, even much smaller men with much less muscle and bulk will turn into fat if one is not careful. I am trying to increase my exercise level, though.

This link leads to the thinner photo of Sully LOL Sorry I couldn't put the two side by side but I think you get the picture. Sully is listed at 6'9' and 260# and Yabusele is 6'8" and the same 260 or perhaps he is 270 or 280 but then, the same could be true for Sully. I think the similarities end about right there. LOL

I've been losing weight for the past 18 months. Was 265 now about 215, been running a little and walking a LOT anywhere between 6-10 miles each day about 30% of that running perhaps. Signed up to run a local 5K at the end of this month 4/29. Preliminary goal is to try to break 30 minutes. Realistic goal is to finish..........with a pulse.
Ran my last race of any kind over 30 years ago. Use to run a lot but getting married and kids sort of took most of my time along with work. Now the kids ae gone for the most part and i'm retired so I do have a lot more time on my hands.
On a side note Marcus will be graduating in May. It is tough to get much information out of him so I really don't even try much anymore so when he offers it it has to be pretty good. He called me the other day (that doesn't happen much, we message quite a bit but actually speaking on the phone, not much) anyway he told me he had just got of the phone and had an interview with the University of Illinois. This was for the position of head video coordinator for the men's basketball team. Said the interview lasted about 20 minutes. This is what he has been doing as an assistant on the SU women's team for the past 2 years, once he ditched the towels and water bottles on the bench.
He doubts he will get the job but he does have a pretty impressive resume for a kid that just turned 22.
he'll land somewhere just don't know where.

beat,
I ran my first race in 50 years about 4 years ago. Since then I have done a number of 5 and 10K, plus a couple of half marathons. The first couple of years I dropped 50lbs but since returning from Standing Rock in Nov I've dealt with my ptsd by eating and have gained 25lbs. This last year I've done a lot of volunteering at races and have run less. But after supporting my son at a couple of 50Ks the last year I'm back on track and getting 4-6 miles in a day. Handed out water yesterday for a 5 and 10 mile trail race and then ran a short 5K in our annual Run As One event to promote awareness of veteran suicides. Running again has helped me and given me a social outlet. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
