Cow,
Can't do that without knowing who is available, do they fit our system AND our needs, and who would they want.

if your going to knock him for not doing a deal to win now, you can name any player in the league, role player or star or superstar, and who or what you would give up for that asset okay....??? I'd like to have gotten Anthony Davis for Smart, Crowder, Amir and one of the Nets pick, I really woulda done that.

Re: Why Danny Ainge Wants to keep the Nets Picks
So if Pelicans do my trade, I would even do it in the offseason, I would want to keep the 17 pick and give them the 18 pick. I would pray somehow we get Josh Jackson, I think he can do more impact than Ball both ends and hes bigger and more dynamic than Faultz, and he could even be our future point in a few years. Our line up would be:
C Al Horford
PF Anthony Davis
SF Jaylen Brown
SG Avery Bradley
PG Issaih Thomas
The C- PF positions are interchabgeable in my starting line up, we would still have a deep bench with:
C Ante Zizic
PF Yabusele (can't spell his first name)
SF-SG-PF (point forward and I could easily see him bringing the ball up consistently ala Scottie Pippen} Josh Jackson
PG Terry Rozier
PF Jonas Jerebko
SG-SF Gerald Green
I really like the bench, hopefully Zizic can add some rebounding and toughness and play with either Davis or Horford and hoping Yabu can add some toughness and another 3 point bomber. Was a tough choice between Smart and AB, but I look at it like AB is a better 2 way player, he has a legit jumper that keeps getting better. Seeing too many games where Marcus shoots like he did tonite, love his ganas, but AB can defend guards as good or better than Marcus, AB is better on PG's and with Jaylen and Josh Jackson, I believe we will have no problem shutting down bigger wings that Marcus usually can handle. Having a real young superstar like Davis hitting his prime with vets like Al and IT would be a dream, now add up and comers like Jaylen, JJ, Zizic and Yabu, that would be fockin great !!!! Jaylen and Josh also have real superstar potential and if not Jordan and Pippen, could be Drexler and Dr J or Dominique, either way we'd be set at the 2-3 for years.

Just a little goofing around over coffee before I start my day. Since the topic was why Ainge kept the picks, and because Cowens set this up and I'm too lazy this morning to write a lineup card myself...
C Thomas Bryant/TBD
PF Al Horford/TBD
SF Jayson Tatum/Josh Jackson
SG Jaylen Brown
PG Issaih Thomas
Bench; Smart, Bradley (TBD/traded), Crowder, Rozier, +
East Finals;2019
Finals;2020
That's why Ainge kept the picks.

Re: Why Danny Ainge Wants to keep the Nets Picks
How is it that a team is able to draft a great player like Anthony Davis?
Teams that are in a position to draft a player of that magnitude are drafting at the top of the order. However most of those teams stink and that is why they get first dibs on the best young talent. Look at Philly.
It is rare indeed for a team as good as Boston to have a real opportunity to be positioned at the top of the draft 3 years in a row. Those picks are not staggered out.. they are 1, 2, 3.
I agree that you probably cannot win a championship unless you have quality veterans. I do not agree that the Celtics window requires that they add a big time star now.
I think Danny understands that based on the results of his first rebuild.
Danny is more likely to keep the remaining Nets picks because they represent the future. He is more likely to trade the other first round picks.
Anthony Davis is not getting traded to Boston anytime soon. Would Gladly part with both Nets picks for him. That will not happen.
The fleecing of the Brooklyn Nets will not be short circuited because fans are impatient. The Celtics Will stock their team will 3 highend draft picks. That project is only 15 months away from completion.

Re: Why Danny Ainge Wants to keep the Nets Picks
Every team that Danny talks to about one of their stars wants to carve out a piece of our core AND get one of the Nets picks.
Danny already left the casino with all the chips in his pocket. Teams want him to sit back down and play a few more hands. Instead Danny would rather play the penny slots and lock away those chips in a safe that cannot be opened until Christmas.
You have to admit that this is an amazing time to be a Celtics fan.

I don't mind keeping the picks, obviously Anthony Davis isn't going anywhere, you have to build around him if you have him....so lets get some more franchise/foundation pieces !!!!

Great draft to be in. Elite level talent. By the way Tatum looks like PP 2.0
Even at 4 we cannot miss. Next year another exciting draft filled with high quality bigs. This team is in the perfect time and space because DA is steering the ship.

I would be very happy with Tatum or Jackson, Jackson can handle better and disrupt on perimeter better, but Tatum is a better iso scorer in the blocks ala Paul Pierce, he could play equally well as a 3 or 4 IMHO. Right now Tatum is keeping Giles glued to the bench.
