Teams interested in Kelly Olynyk?

I try to keep my eyes on as much Celtics stuff as possible, but have not read or heard (TV) anything about any other team yet
being interested in Olynyk.

Has anyone heard of any NBA teams considering being interested in our restricted free agent?

I am thinking that if no other team has interest that re-signing Olynyk may not be as expensive as we all once thought.

Rosalie posed a similar question a while back (or was it last night on the Game On! thread. LOL).

I think it's a waiting game. He's not an elite free agent, so teams aren't climbing over each other to get at him (like they are over Gordon Hayward), and I think they are just waiting for the Gordon Hayward situation to resolve itself and see where Boston's cap room is at. If we get Hayward then Danny will probably have to rescind Kelly's qualifying offer, making him an UNrestricted free agent. Then teams won't have to worry about us matching and keeping him.

He's a new NBA stretch 4/5 who shoots 3s well and has excellent court vision and passing skills. If he is set free as a bird he'll get some attractive offers, I have no doubt.

I was also wondering why we have seen zero interest for him thus far. He may fit into some teams MLE slot but I do not see him getting a lot of interest. The CAP space dollar are drying up faster than a rain shower in the desert.

If he is all that you say he is he would not be sitting on the sidelines right now. Boston would have already extended him if they envisioned him as an ongoing concern. KO is a good example of a bad # 1 pick. Four years in and now he very well may be entering a phase in his career where he signs 1 or 2 year deals and moves from place to place.

If Boston losses out on Hayward they will likely bring KO back on a short term low budget deal. Maybe $21 million for 3 years with a team option in year 3.

DBOSS,

Not sure anyone has claimed that Olynyk is a star of any nature. But, he could still help us again next year as long as he is not too expensive. It is not like we have an abundance of big men on our roster at this time who can pass and shoot threes fairly well.

Whomever signs Olynyk will be very much interested to see if he can shake off his four year inconsistency to become a 15 PPG scorer and possibly an 8 RPG player.

Price for Olynyk around the deadline was ~$13m. It’s gone up since then, but teams no longer have to bid against Celtics’ matching rights.
