Justified, since Cuban, Phil and Riley all got fined as well.
I'm also not 100% convinced George will leave OKC without another star player to join him in lakerland. Why can't he go to the Clips? That was the team he rooted for as a kid. And why can't he stay where he is, esp if Westbrook commits long term?

This was a slap on the wrist.
Paul George apparently told the Pacers management that he wants to sign with the Lakers next summer.
That's why they traded him this past summer.
I've never heard of him being interested in the Clippers.
Paul can bring Westbrook with him to the Lakers.
Westbrook is from the LA area...

Re: Lakers fined for Tampering
Paul George could just as easily end up very happy in OKC.
Westbrook may recruit him to stay there if he signs his long term deal.
The lakers will have to gut there team to get two max free agents.
The last three "big" free agents the lakers have signed have been Luol Deng, Timofy Mozgov and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
But you keep trying to convince me they'll get both......that will be fun!!

I'm not trying to convince you of anything.
If Russ doesn't sign his $207m extension before the season starts, he's probably as good as gone.
If Russ leaves, Paul will leave.
Not nearly as many teams will have significant cap room next season.
The free agent class next year is incredible.
I'm glad they have a shot a two superstar players.
If they sign two, they could keep Randle if the two sign for a little over $30m per year.
Maybe Lopez would re-sign for the room exception...???
It's way to early to worry about their roster.
Who would have guessed that Boston would have only 4 players from last year?

Russell would leave OKC, where he could sign for 40 mill, to come to LA and sign for 30?
Sure he would!!

Gordon Hayward left Utah for $45m less from Boston.
Westbrook's starting salary next year with OKC could be $38m.
Sometimes in life when you have enough money, you want to choose where you want to live.
Russ doesn't seem like an Oklahoma type of guy.
I don't know if he will leave.
It's not a good sign for OKC that he refuses to sign the super-max contract.

What's more important is the 2018 Lakers pick leaving the Sixers and coming to Boston.

Re: Lakers fined for Tampering
I would be very surprised if PG stays in OKC. LA is on the rise and OKC is going nowhere. Durant left because he knew he could not win playing along side Westbrook. PG will figure that out this year.
Magic wants him. LA has been fined. LA is the future while OKC blew their opportunity because they were too cheep to keep Harden. PG is no idiot. He has no loyalty to OKC and will sign with LA next summer.
Westbrook is an amazing talent that gets in his own way.
I desire a Boston-LA finals as soon as possible. LA is a prime destination for George.

I think you'll have to wait a little longer for that to happen.
By the time the Lakers reach the Finals, Celts would already have won #18, #19, and maybe #20.
The western conference is just too strong right now and in the near future.
Lakers are 5 years away, at the very least.
Let's not kid ourselves, Brandon Ingram is a bust in the making.
Julius Randle is Corliss Williamson at best.
Only Lonzo Ball has a chance of becoming a bright spot for the Lakers.
Lakers will most likely miss the playoffs again this coming season.
That will be the 5th straight year they miss the playoffs.
I think the Lakers will tie or surpass the Celts' 6 straight seasons of missing the playoffs in the 90s.

I did not remotely suggest a timeframe for another Celtics /Lakers championship series. I was just suggested that PG will move them in the right direction. You may also want to consider that LeBron may also head there at the same time.
If Lebron is still a big time baller 12 months from now that would make LA a contender.
6 year speculation for a rebuild may be excessive. I do agree and hope that LA is a lotto team this coming season and the balls land between 2 and 5.

Even if Lebron goes to the Lakers, they will still not beat the Warriors for at least 2-3 seasons.
Lebron will be 34 or 35 at that time.
The Lakers don't have the assets like what the Celts had and still have.
I would not be surprised if the Lakers will not win a championship in the next 10 years.

Re: Lakers fined for Tampering
Pretty minor stuff compared to the bigger picture for LA.
As one of the premier large markets, they're always going to attract players.
With some promising youngsters, free agent additions like George wouldn't be a surprise over the next couple of seasons. I don't think James will be one of them, however. Despite the rumor mill, I think he stays with Cleveland.
Although LA has a ways to go to be competitive in the tougher West, I expect they could at least be a second round playoff threat within the next three or four seasons, and will build from there. I believe championship contention is still quite a distance away.

How in this day with all the ways one can contact another how anything can be controlled is questionable at best.

Players can get together and make plans, but team management cannot communicate with signed players? I remember when LeBron went to the Heat, Wade was the instigator. If you don't think that there wasn't any ongoing communication between Wade and Riley, you may want to think it over again. The Heat's salary cap situation was all set up for them to pull the trigger when it was time.
That's a double standard that will never change

This wouldn't have been an issue if Magic hadn't gone on Jimmy Kimmel and joked about Paul George.
In the last couple of years, Mitch Kupchak was viewed as being too much of a rule follower.
Quite a bit of chatting or messages get passed to players behind the scenes but Mitch apparently never participated in that.
LA seemed to be out of touch with free agents.
Smart GM's are usually smart enough to not leave a trail of tampering evidence.
I'm agree that Riley probably used one of his players (Wade) to get messages to LeBron and Bosh.

Paul went on Kimmel also. He was on his way out to train with Kobe. There were jokes about the Lakers, about him coming out there and George just sat there with a smile on his face as Jimmy kept. talking about the Lakers. At the end of the interview Kimmel just said that he would see him next year at the Forum. No denial, nothing but smirks and laughs. If there was nothing to it I think there would have been a little more denial. Let's face it, it has been a rumor for almost a year. So, we will see.
Why not a ban on dealing with him on the Lakers? That to me is what tampering leads to.
That is the way I feel, they have done it before for lesser violations

Re: Lakers fined for Tampering
This whole "tampering" business is pretty damn vague in my eyes. Didn't Paul George express interest in LA?
It also begs this question: if a team can be fined for tampering by communicating with another player's agent, can players themselves be fined for collusion when they "join forces?" When Miami put together their Big Three, anyone could argue that these players collaborated to get the means to play on the same team.
It's something to consider if the NBA is really concerned about the free agency trends the league is heading in. If you ask me, I don't think anyone can be done, unless the NBA actively nixes certain trades/free agent signings.

Re: Lakers fined for Tampering
The way basketball is today, there is really no rule about this. I think they made a big deal because it was Magic. Did they do anything when the players kept in contact with Durant last year>.
We will see this again and again, it is not going away. Just move on
