Prediction!
If the Lakers pick this year falls outside of the spots where we will get it, I predict Ainge trading a couple of his store of first round picks to move
up into the top five spots in order to get his hands on one of the big guys who are likely to make a difference. I am sure that there will be other
very good smaller forwards and guards in some of the following drafts, but this year there are at least four very, very solid NBA big man
prospects likely to get drafted near the top of the draft.
Getting a big guy this summer will put this kid into prime position to replace Horford when Horford's contract runs out. The kid will get two
years to learn from Al and also two seasons to gain plenty of experience at the NBA level.
Giving up two (or even three picks) will still leave the Cs with four (or three) first round picks over the next three seasons figuring
that he is unable to come up with a way to add yet another first rounder.

Re: Prediction!
Anything is possible.
If the Celtics did this who would you want them to target? Who in the top 5 is worth 3 first rounders?
Would they be better off taking 3 first rounders and going after Davis?
Is this year's draft so important that Danny would do this?

Re: Prediction!
trading for A. Davis will require the Celtics sending out salary close to his back, PLUS the draft picks.
Davis has a salary of $25M next year, so Hayward or Horford would work in any deal.
is Davis worth Horford and 3 first round picks?
that's why Danny makes the big money I suppose.

Get a big in the draft to maintain flexibility.
Maintain a constant stream of assets for the future.
Davis isn't worth it.

I agree. Keep the best of what we have and add to it going forward.

Re: Prediction!
So you are saying they will not consider signing Al Horford to a contract extension at the end of his present contract??? I really wonder about this theory. I think you are downplaying the importance of his value. I agree he will be, what 33-34 at this time? I wonder what his value is to another team at this age, and I wonder if trading him would hurt this team more than help.
Just wondering...........you can tell I am a big Al fan I do know no one is untradeable as that his been proven many times before, but I really wonder if he will pull the string on this kind of a trade

We have seen a lot of bigs play well into their 30's and still be very productive players. Al may also be able to do that particularly because he is really not a post center.
He has that $30 million player option for 2019-20 season and I think he would opt in unless Boston was willing to offer him a lucrative extension (3 year deal) The same year Kyrie has a player option and is likely to opt out and sign a new big time deal. At that point you also have to start looking at the cost for Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum. Hayward will still be on the books for another $60 millions. That is a lot of clams.
As of today Boston still has a lot of 1st round draft picks. As such it seems reasonable that they should be able to find Al's eventual replacement. That is one way to go and it has already been used in the draft (Rozier, Brwon and Tatum BTB3) The other option is to trade for another star player.
If NO decides to move Davis, Boston should not part with either of the J's but they would probably consider moving Al along with 3 picks to get Davis. That is deal you have to make because Davis is a really special talent. Davis, Hayward, Brown, Tatum and Irving would be the core for a championship team into the future.
The Celtics likely have 2 first rounders over the next 3 years that should be lotto picks. Since it appears the LAL pick will not happen, next's years Sacto pick could be huge. They are going to still be a bad team next year. The next interesting pick will be the Memphis pick.
Memphis has to rebuild and it will take them several years to do that. We own their 2019 pick top 8 protected or 2020 top 6 protected or 2021 unprotected. They are a horrible team and cap strapped with Conley, Gasol and Parsons draining the coffers.
These draft picks can be used to add talent to the frontline which is the most cost effective way to add talent as opposed to trading the picks and players to add a piece. But if the right deal is there to be made Danny will do the deal
By the way, 2019 Clippers pick is still in play. If they make the playoffs next year we will get that pick. I think it will be a middle round pick.
okay I am all over the ice, sliding around everywhere.
